! New EU ruling for based crew

Better social protection for airline staff and cross-border workers

SMOC 19th Apr 2012 13:35

The new regulation introduces the concept of a "home base" for granting aircrew members access to social security rights. The home base is where pilots and cabin crews "normally start and end a duty period" and "where the operator is not responsible for the accommodation of the crew member".
Hey management whats your interpretation of "normally"?

FIRESYSOK 19th Apr 2012 13:54

That depends on what the definition of "is" is.

spannersatcx 19th Apr 2012 18:34

Normally = HKG!

cxorcist 19th Apr 2012 20:15

Sorry to say it, but...

That sounds like the beginning of the end for PAR and FRA bases.

From what I've read, current employees have 10 years to adapt to the new rules.

As I have said elsewhere... if, instead of bleating on Pprune, European based crew took the time to read the legal aspects, particularly about days off and leave, contained in the EASA regs, they may well learn something to their advantage...:cool:

hawkeye 29th Apr 2012 21:40

EASA does not apply. We work under a HK AOC on HK registered aircraft. Hope EASA never applies. Their FTLs are considerably more onerous than ours.

XFR8 8th May 2012 15:31

Those EU Rules will only be applicable to EU carriers. Kitsune.... Bleating, no EU based bleats here me old!

PS. Anyone quoting EASA rules should seek urgent therapy.
