Emergency Procedures Instructor
 

Posted this originally in 'Wannabes' section, but reckon as you guys are 'Alreadybes' you probably know more about this...

Having got an ME CPL in 2007, I managed to break my back soon after (nothing to do with flying I hasten to add) and therefore couldn't fly for a long time. With that break in flying (and spine!), and my age (37), I have found it very difficult to get a job as a pilot, even though I'm holding a class1 medical again. I saw last month, and applied for, a position at Cathay as "Emergency Procedures Instructor". Does anyone out there know more details about the position? Having spent so much time, money and effort on getting my licence I don't want to turn my (now-healed) back on the aviation industry, and a job like that sounds more appealing to me than sitting in an office in Central banging my head on a desk for the rest of my life!

Sometimes I feel I was a complete fool for coming into this flying circus at a 'later' age. :ugh: But then again, I would have lived the rest of my life with regret at not trying. I think it's about time I had some luck with something...

Any helpful info, or pointers, about the post would be great.

Certainly get the impression of frustrations at CX...both on this forum and around DB. However, not having worked in quite a while now, I'll take whatever I can get. A sh:mad:t package is better than no package in my current position. Can't spend my whole life sitting in the Plaza...actually I probably could, come to think of it...!

It's usually run by locals but with excellent English probably very repetitive but once in the door you may be able to apply for internal vacancies and find something you prefer on a higher pay. :ok:

Get the top make yourself DFO (you have a pilots licence :ok: not that you need one as we've seen in the past:mad:) and make Flight Ops like it was in the 70/80s you'll be a legend, A scale corrected for inflation from the 70/80s too :}

I'm on the case now, SMOC. Plan to be running CX by next Wednesday. Taken on board your suggestions. Reckon I can implement all sensible suggestions within 3 weeks. Any other suggestions, people? ;)

did you mean Emergency Procedures Instructor trainee? this is an entry level position and the main responsibility is to provide emergency training to crew members (both cockpit and cabin). this isnt anyting related to flying emergency but general emergency procedure such as evacuation etc. you are required to get the necessary licenses within a few years (they will train you).

there were people successfully "transformed" to the cockpit in the past via CPP from this position, with and without any hours. "transform" because there is no such thing call "internal transfer" but internal vacancies for staff to apply and the process is very much the same as the applicant via the normal channel. There is never any internal application so far (as i remember) for cockpit position except the scholarship program (2 vacanices per year up to age 30 or near with 2 years of continuously service at CX in any position may apply, not sure if it still exists. in brief, this is internel CPP).

im not sure if they still interested in ppl at your age but no harm trying. if you get interview offer, better prepare question like "why interested in this position" etc. No or little FL tech question will be asked as the initial interviewer is from personnel.

If you have the rating (CPL) and a few hundred hours, try to seek for flying opportunity in the private sector, or their FL ops position. they take ppl with this level of experience.

if you are local, HKA has a so called "cadet" position for people with rating but little hours. they dont advertise anywhere but you may drop them an email. their "cadet" is actually a RHS position with little pay and prepare a timeless waiting & training before really flying line.

no CPP taken at your age so far but it doesnt mean a "must-no" because it really goes case by case. DE is definately a big "no' if without the minimum hours.

There was a guy in the CP40 class at the age of 45.

this is amazing and nice to hear that. my guess is... he is an i-cadet, not 100% local. CP 40, too new, let's find out:ok::ok:
