According to Hong Kong Government figures, 9,470 tonnes of shark fin were imported into Hong Kong in 2010, of which 10% was by air cargo. With 20-50% flown in on Cathay Pacific Cargo - that's up to…

I think if you're really worried about blood money from shark fin soup, despite being a worthy issue to care about, you'd better get your priorities straight and start wondering where all the fuel comes from for your airplane:

Do you really think the "NATO" (Europe/North American defence alliance) war in Afghanistan is about the Taliban, and that they could not have killed bin Laden 10 yrs ago? Is there much oil there? Try Google.

Do you really think the "NATO" (Europe/North American defence alliance) war in Libya was about human rights and "freedom?" Is there much oil there? Try Google.

Do you really think the war in Iraq by the "coalition of the willing" was about weapons of mass destruction? Is there much oil there? Try Google.

Do you really think China and the US are establishing themselves as economic and military powers all over Africa to help save people from all the wars, abuses, genocides and human rights violations? Is there much oil there? Try Google.

Do you really think the US and European governments give a crap about the people dying daily in Israel and Palestine? Is there much oil there in the Middle East where the US and European governments need to balance power and distract people the most? Try Google.

Do you really think the Arab Spring just happened because of Facebook in the name of "freedom" and "democracy?" Is there much oil there in the Middle East and North Africa where the US and European governments need to balance power and distract people the most? Try Google.

Do you really think the US, Canadian, British and other allied special forces, security services and mercenaries aren't assassinating people and arranging deadly incidents all around the oil-rich world? Is there much oil where they are operating all around the world, or are they helping people in Congo and Syria? Try Google.

The list goes on...

Do you really believe anything you read in the newspaper or hear on TV? Should you?

Shark abuse is bad...but murdering hundreds of thousands of people per year, and destroying lives while causing immense suffering all around the world, to keep the oil going, and your career...does that bother your conscience?

raven11 30th Mar 2012 16:30

Iron Skillet....are you for real??? You mean the old canard of blood for oil....?

Then I guess the vast right-wing forces of evil will be attacking Canada soon? I googled Canada and found the country contains....yes, you guessed it, vast oil reserves.

The reason that hundreds of thousands of people are dieing in the countries you listed has nothing to do with oil. It is because they are basket case societies where theocratic nut-job jihadists, mentally stuck in the back waters of the eleventh century, have been killing each other from the beginning of time. My conscience is just fine....thank you.

I don't think that China had ever claim that...they had indicated that they needed the resources and commodities for the rapid growth. They are paying big money for that. They West had colonised and plundered Africa for centuries, paying pittance and setting the stage for wanton corruption as well as blood thirsty ruling regimes. The West MSM scare mongering are going hyper again in their vain attempt to scuttle the legitimate growth and development of a third world country.

Canada is a first world nation with widespread literacy; a different tactic is employed here with a more modernised " puppet regime " under Harper, and of course there are other ways to get the Canadian oil without marching in with troops or resorting to gun boat diplomacy.

Does it bother yours? Just curious.

raven11 31st Mar 2012 03:18

Jizz Monkey you said...."the only thing this modernized world cares about is OIL. why do you think they haven't invaded N. Korea again? "

OK, I'll bite....just who are "they"? And do you propose we stop being a "modernized world"? How quaint.....how specious!

Newsflash: the industrial might and economic output of the west, not to mention your livelihood, are fueled by evil fossil based fuels....oil and natural gas. Unless oil has no part in your life, then u r a hypocrite. Before you preach abstinence from oil, you should live by your convictions man.

Quit your job and go live off the land! Post back from time to time....let us know how you are getting on.

PNM 31st Mar 2012 06:24

Ouch! That's gotta hurt.

Iron Skillet 31st Mar 2012 06:54

STP: Yes, but not that much. Life is very short and I think you have to pick your battles. (D.R. of Congo, execution, human trafficking, female and male genital mutilation/aka circumcision, racism, seal hunt for fur, child abuse, Darfur, Wall Street, warrant-less wiretapping, all religions, malaria, bear traps, global warming, sexual assault, US Cuban embargo, Vatican-led abuse cover ups, police brutality, the corruption of politics, slave/indentured/child labour...I can't fix everything.)

raven11: Yes, I am real. Canada doesn't need to be attacked, it is already stable, submissive and cooperative. Also, no point addressing your other nonsense, you are clearly too ignorant and confused to bother debating.

jizzmonkey: At least someone is paying attention to the stories behind the stories.

Nothing wrong with using resources...unless you are lying to the entire world about your manipulation tactics and brainwashing soldiers about what they are fighting for, etc.

Iron Skillet

Just to get this straight in my own mind. Am I correct in understanding that:

murdering hundreds of thousands of people per year, and destroying lives while causing immense suffering all around the world, to keep the oil going
doesn't bother you that much because life is too short and you have to pick your battles? If I've misinterpreted your statements then please forgive me.

Of the extensive list of battles that you're presumably engaged in, which one do you think you are most likely to be able to fix? Again, just curious.

Iron Skillet 31st Mar 2012 13:50

STP: All those things bother me, but as for whether I have a clear conscience or a bothered conscience, I meant by "not that much" that my conscience is bothered somewhat. Because each of those subjects would require a massive effort to battle, much less win, and since 99% of people don't care, that's what I meant by life is too short and having to pick your battles.

This list of subjects was all to demonstrate how narrow-minded it was to be so greatly upset about shark fin soup, as most normal people should be, considering how many very large, cruel and immoral things are going on all around us, and how much more there is to be angry about other than sharks.

As for what I think is easiest to fix: US Cuban embargo. Runner up, executions, by which I mean capital punishment.

Iron Skillet

Thanks for clarifying your position which I understand to be that:

murdering hundreds of thousands of people per year, and destroying lives while causing immense suffering all around the world, to keep the oil going
bothers you somewhat. Finally, if it only bothers you 'somewhat' why did you pose the question to PA28r200hp, particularly considering the length of your original post on this topic? I could understand if you were 'very' bothered (sounds like answers to questions in a survey doesn't it?) but a "yeah, whatever" concern seems incongruous with your original position.

Iron Skillet 1st Apr 2012 01:39

...because there are a lot worse things going on than shark fins, that affect people.

But I didn't say that particular issue "bothers me somewhat." I said it bothers my conscience "somewhat."

And I don't eat shark fin soup.

Jizz
Although I would be proud to call myself an American....I am not.

You, on the other hand are a dumb bigot that doesn't possess the intellect to support the fatuous statements you pound off from your keyboard.

For instance, if oil is soooo bad....why then do you earn your lively hood, live your life and support your family from the power derived from it???? Where would you be tomorrow Jizz, if this energy resource suddenly disappeared?

I guess for people like you it's just easier to run with the herd and punch angry infantile slogans on to an Internet post.....

Shark fin blood money, to evil oil empire, to evil western world keeping the developing world down and always ending in the mysterious 'they'.

Classic Fragrant Harbour thread.:D

Popcorn anyone....

Iron Skillet 1st Apr 2012 02:48

I don't think anyone said oil is bad.

I think the point is that corruption, violence, wars, murder, lies, deception, brainwashing, immorality, etc., surround the oil industry. Working in conjunction with governments, they easily manage to deflect attention from their conduct and receive support from armed forces to make more money, at the cost of great human suffering all around the world: Whether that means organizing the indebtedness of Indonesia or the invasion of Iraq or the destruction of the Ecuadorian jungle or facilitating a pipeline across Afghanistan, some people endure tremendous suffering because of it, and that is generally regarded as more important that sharks.

Steve the Pirate 1st Apr 2012 02:48

Careful..

Be careful Raven11, you need to be aware of the intellect you're dealing with when you take on the likes of Jizzmonkey. I think the 2 posts quoted below (censored for decency but still available for all to see on the iPad thread) give you some idea of the mental prowess of your antagonist:

ok fag boys. just got the new iPad. I ran home like a school girl getting her first period. cool piece of apple crap. now I know what all you pretty fags were going on about!

ok had it a few minutes now and would like to ask u all a question. how do u hold it while mas*****ting? left or right hand? sit it on yr fat ass bellies? do u have a stand? which one is good for w***ing with and which cover is the most c*m proof?
You need to be afraid, very afraid.... :)

Iron Skillet 1st Apr 2012 04:34

"They" isn't mysterious to normal people, is it? The governments/military-industrial complexes of US/UK/Russia/France/etc., and ExxonMobil/BP/Shell/ConocoPhillips/Chevron/Lukoil/Total/etc., who basically are a drop in the bucket compared to Saudi Aramco/National Iranian Oil/Qatar General Petroleum/Iraq National Oil/Petroleos de Venezuela/etc., and do something about it to get what they want and make money doing it.

You really didn't know this?

While we're at it, anyone out there buy their wife a bit of old carbon to make her feel special? Who invented that tradition, and its marketing campaign? Ever notice any consequences in the world from this that are more important than shark fins?

MrClaus 1st Apr 2012 05:09

Time for a beer I think. Past 12 so I should be ok.

I think you boys are off your game. We haven't dragged religion into this yet.
