Pay of Cathay Pacific Pilot?

Hello!

What is the pay of Cathay Pacific First Officer?

Thank you!

Sir KDM Lowe 20th Nov 2011 21:34

We're not recruiting first officers at the moment, so why would you ask? New joiners start as second officer cadets on a new, much reduced pay scale. There are no first officers on this pay scale so no one can answer your question. Contact the recruitment department at CX for further information.

Please can we refrain from posting personal financial information on a public forum.

Bueno Hombre "What other choice does he have except feeding our chickens..."

Bueno Hombre, as your son is evidently quite familiar with chicken feed, he should be an ideal candidate for the CX cadet scheme.
Although as he is also the family "taxi" driver perhaps he could get work driving a taxi in Hong Kong - it might pay more than CX!

Bob Hawke 22nd Nov 2011 19:35

SO Chooka, on the way!

A qualified chicken feeder might be above the standard CX now require. ALTHOUGH his theory of flight might be ahead of the other applicants. Is your son named "Chooka," by any chance? If so, and he shows the same talent as this lad, he may also get a spot doing a free promo , for THE COMPANY.

FERetd 22nd Nov 2011 19:59

SO Chooka, on the way!

Bob you are so right! Chooka is the man for the job. He might even breathe some life into the Gay Bar. But he would probably make better money busking at the TST MTR station.

Hi all,

I was just wandering if someone can shed some light on an up to date salary for a SO at CX is these days. I have tried looking online etc but only coming up with info from a few years back.

Thanks

i_fly_planes 3rd Jan 2015 05:03

Dan Buster,

Thanks, just doing my due diligence. Do you have a ball park figure inclusive of allowances etc.

Do they pay from day one or have they stooped that low they only pay you when you arrive in HK?

Cheers

LongTimeInCX 3rd Jan 2015 06:05

Times have changed, you have to effectively use your own money in order to live in HK and have the privilege of being the bunk maker in chief, and LOIC of the sandwiches and blue bag.

So if you are independently wealthy, no problems at all, come on in, the water's lovely and warm.

stevieboy330 3rd Jan 2015 06:17

The actual dollar figure on it's own could be very misleading for you. Just as $1000 a week sounds like a good pay check in some countries like India or Vietnam might be considered excellent, but in a major US or Aussie city its below average.
Just as the dollar amount for rent in a city where a two bedroom, two bathroom flat in a nice building in the city is $5k US a month (Which it is in Hong Kong), is no comparison to most other places. All of a sudden your thousand bucks a week means you can't even put a roof over your head.
You need to be doing a lot of homework before pursuing a "Career" as a Pilot in Hong Kong. Not least of which should include "what sort of place is it like to work" there are an awful lot of unhappy Pilots at Cathay.

The FUB 3rd Jan 2015 10:27

However, as a first job with no experience the starting salary and prospects are quite good. Sure the pay starts low but it steadily increases and very few get fired even if they do almost zero work or professional study. How many professions pay you so much for so little?

i_fly_planes 3rd Jan 2015 11:32

Is anyone able to provide a figure? Even if it is via a PM?

Thanks again.

The FUB 3rd Jan 2015 11:46

Approx basic HK$ 40000 +12000 housing/HPA.

i_fly_planes 3rd Jan 2015 12:18

@The Fub,

Thank you, is there flight pay as well or is that included in the basic?

Cheers

Yonosoy Marinero 3rd Jan 2015 15:24

The ballpark is between not enough and 'Are you sure the decimal is in the right place?'.

But don't let that discourage you. It certainly didn't discourage all these guys who are now wearing red lanyards at dispatch because they eventually found out they can't afford to have kids.

And the Accountant-fused time bomb I have spoken about before goes on ticking..............:\

Trafalgar 3rd Jan 2015 17:49

Don't make the mistake that hundreds of our SO's have made. The 'numbers' sound good on paper. That is because you have NO idea as to the actual cost of living in HK. To put it in perspective, it would equate to the same earnings in other countries as listed below:

1) UK 1400 gbp/mo
2)USA 1900 usd/mo
3)CAN 2100 cdn/mo
4)FRA 1700 euro/mo

etc, etc.

To clarify: the amounts quoted are approximately the sort of lifestyle you could expect living in HK with our local cost of living, with ALL of the money CX will give you. You CAN expect to need your parents to send you money to survive. You CAN expect to never have a family. Even a girlfriend will be too expensive for you.

Any further questions ?

Anotherday 4th Jan 2015 01:08

It all comes down to disposable income, if you're earning 2 zillion a month but the cost of a 600 sq ft apartment plus living expenses is 2.3 zillion then you've got a problem.

As an full B scale said to a new joiner the other day....

"it'll take you 5 years before your entire paycheck could cover my rent"!

You make More at Hong Kong airlines just next door, just saying if you are qualified might be another option...

OMG! How bizarre!

Spoilt bloody expats. Spent a LongTimeinFantasyWorld?

Captain Dart 5th Jan 2015 02:52

No, they spent a lot of money on him, and he has spent a long time in CX because there were not enough locals qualified to do his job.

pilot4eva 7th Jan 2015 11:35

We all know about the sky high property prices in Hong Kong. Hence in addition to the pay, Cathay Pacific will offer free housing for the first 8 years of service to new joiners.
This was mentioned in a CX cabin crew recruitment ad.Looks like they care more about their cabin crew than pilots! Why don't they give free housing to SO's too?

The FUB 7th Jan 2015 13:19

There is always a difference between recruitment and reality. CX will promise you (pilots) the earth, but when you have sobered up after the cocktail party will offer give you mud.

Why do we have no interview cocktail parties? Because most of the target audience are too young to drink or are still living with their mom.

Does our insurance company really know what we are trying to recruit?

We need pilots not HK school kids.

(Just a few random statements)

Lowkoon 8th Jan 2015 03:53

Maybe we could do interview Dim Sum, might eliminate a few of extraordinarily loud slurpers of recent times?

Yes, I know its cultural but the Greek pilots refrain from smashing their plates and the Italian guys don't test if the pasta is 'aldente' against the cockpit door and the Nigerian guy doesn't bombard us with spam. ;)

FERetd 8th Jan 2015 08:59

Lost opportunity?

Lowkoon Quote "and the Nigerian guy doesn't bombard us with spam. "

What a shame!

Think of all those billions of dollars that you are missing out on - every day!!!!!

Lowkoon 9th Jan 2015 04:28

So true, I tremble with anticipation as I wait for the 20 million euro I won in the Spanish lottery, and to think I didn't even buy a ticket! It must have just been fate! How thoughtful of those kind Nigerians to track me down and let me know... :8

FERetd 9th Jan 2015 07:47

Slow post?

Do not worry, Lowkoon. I'm sure that the cheque is in the mail! Nigerian post is notoriously slow. I too, am still waiting for my inheritance from some distant relative.

Strangely though, since I gave these kind people my bank account details my savings seem to have been depleted. Never mind, they will be topped up soon, I'm sure!

Greenlights 10th Jan 2015 17:11

Pay ?
just enough to eat and live with others colleagues in a same apartment in HK....

good luck ;)
