Hong Kong for a week

Hi guys,

I'm taking a trip to HK for a week starting this Tuesday and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a flight school in the area to get an hour or so of instruction. I am a US PPL holder, but basically would love to rent an acft with an instructor and fly over HK, do a bit of sightseeing etc. Does anyone know any outfits in the area that wouldn't mind renting/instructing to someone with a FAA licence?

Btw, if you have any suggestions on things to do/see in the area I would appreciate it as well.

Cheers!

Good luck with this. I attempted the same thing back in April when I was there. The only place I spoke with would be US450 an hour in a 172, and they only did it if you were a prospective member. Sightseeing flights not allowed.

If you find a place, please post the info.

Thanks,

FR

Better have a current instrument ticket because all you will see is smog.
Seriously.

The only GA in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong Flying Club. They only operate fixed wing from the airfield at Sek Kong, and then only when the PLA will let them. It's very expensive as AVGAS isn't available and has to be imorted by the Club from Singapore. There's also some rotary during the week from the old airport at Kai Tak. http://www.hkaviationclub.com.hk/nav16.html

One alternative is to book a 737 sim with Flight Experience at the Megabox mall in Kowloon. You can have a go at the IGS approach at the old Kai Tak. See Flight Experience Hong Kong - Home Page

No chance, because you eyes will be shut tight due to the painful, stinging sensation produced by the acrid air. Flight instructors at the local flying club have been complaining for years about eye irritations for this very reason.
