Chief Pilot B777 (Designate)

I had heard GL was going to be the man for this job 6 months ago. Sometimes rumours do come true.:hmm:

cxorcist 16th Nov 2010 07:42

A well deserved and overdue promotion for an excellent pilot manager. He did a great job taking on the beast that WAS the -400 training department. He will miss the 747-8 though which is a shame after all his hard work.

flyingkiwi 16th Nov 2010 09:25

thats great news. the other alternative rumour was not good...

40Deg STH 16th Nov 2010 09:42

Rumour. The other alternative is taking GL's vacated position:ugh:

moosp 16th Nov 2010 14:27

Damn if that is true we shall miss him on the -400. One of the best bosses I have worked for on the fleet.

Interesting that he was kept out of management for so long by sh*ts who were then sidelined and then eased out to AHK. They feared his ability, and from them that was a rightful fear. Eventually brains will win out over bullsh*t.

777, enjoy, you are getting a class act.

But pray, enlighten us minions. Who is this mysterious "alternate"?

Harbour Dweller 17th Nov 2010 00:15

Confirmed, GL is in.

News out today.

4 driver 17th Nov 2010 03:34

Moosp;
GL was in the Tri-star fleet office years ago if I'm not mistaken. I think he was barely 30!
Previous management recognized his abilities.....then a bit of a break but I won't speculate.
Knew him on the Classic and can echo all previous sentiments.
Great guy.

main_dog 17th Nov 2010 09:01

Lucky trippler

May I echo the prevalent sentiment... GL was a pleasure to work with, and our loss is the 777's gain.

4 Driver, I think moosp knows who GL is, but like me he was wondering who is rumoured to replace him?

I heard P.E. is coming back to take G.L.s job on the 747. :\

positionalpor 17th Nov 2010 22:09

GL is a great guy and pilot/manager.He will be missed.

Flap10 18th Nov 2010 03:13

How short people's memories are....:yuk::yuk::yuk:

Mat Sapu 18th Nov 2010 05:38

Wow! Can we have him on the adverisements please? With all the above accolades, he is a shoo for all the photo shoots.:D:D

Mr. Bloggs 18th Nov 2010 06:20

How short indeed.

Flaps 10, how short they are indeed. He wasn’t too outstanding in 1998-99.:=

broadband circuit 18th Nov 2010 09:51

Anyone? Anyone?

He's very popular, the sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waste-oids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.

Captain Dart 19th Nov 2010 02:24

There was a time when GL was known as 'Pop Gun'; people's memories are short, aren't they? GL will be looking after GL, just as other individuals who put their hand up for management are out for themselves. He has associated himself with a management which has done nothing but make war on its crews' salary and conditions for the better part of two decades. How often have I heard, 'I want to give something back' or 'I want to make a difference'? Well, the following emoticon says it all: :yuk:

Be very careful with these people.

coolio 19th Nov 2010 05:04

most of these guys posting were not here in 99 when he was standing up for the company at an EGM. HE IS A MANAGER - Nuf said

"I guess the same could be said about the self serving types that volunteer for the committee."

This of course is nonsense, electing to help out in management, joining the committee or becoming a trainer... is all about giving something back to your fellow pilot.

Yes you are going to get people volunteering for the wrong reasons in all categories mentioned above. We have had more than our fair share of self serving types on the committee as well, that were similarly gifted as some of past and present managers are in the "listening skills" department.

However GL is not one of them, he is an above average pilot and trainer who regularly sticks his neck out for his troops. We want those types of people in management and in training and on the committee.

Isn't a sad state of affairs that when you speak up against the majority that you are accused of being a scab or a management stooge. I admired what he tried to do in 99. Its a shame we didn't listen, perhaps 51 peoples live's wouldn't have been affected if we had.

crwjerk 24th Nov 2010 23:48

The "other guy" is in the 777 sim this week............ ??????????????

Flap10 25th Nov 2010 11:28

We didn't listen because it was hard to hear him hiding in the corner and relaying what was being said back to headquarters.

broadband circuit 26th Nov 2010 01:04

Headquarters

We didn't listen because it was hard to hear him hiding in the corner and relaying what was being said back to headquarters.
Harsh but absolutely true. And for the youngsters, by headquarters, he means NR on the 3rd floor.
