price for membership

I would like to start an open discussion about the right form of union, more specifically the right price for membership.

I am not (yet) a member simply because of the money.

Maybe I am misled about how much it really cost to run a union.
General sec plus assistance plus mini office plus utility maybe 150000ish ?
Divided by 1000 150/month, by 2000 75/month etc

I personally do not want an insurance,no loss of license, no nothing, just representation.

It could be an easy way to boost membership numbers by simply making it cheaper. Or maybe to offer different levels of membership ( with/ without insurance etc)

Just my 2 cents..

Actually, 711, there is a price for non-membership. How any international pilot, especially in this part of the world, can fly commercial jet aircraft without some form of professional support (IFALPA) in the case of an accident or incident, defies belief.

Languishing in a Taiwanese/Korean/Japanese prison after an incident will give you plenty of time to regret not spending a few lousy bucks on being part of your pilots' association. Even in our 'comfy' home base, Hong Kong, some years ago the Captain of the MD-11 that flipped over on landing during typhoon conditions required significant assistance from the AOA during his treatment at the hands of local authorities.

At least you're honest saying your non-membership is about the money; it's a refreshing change to excuses such as 'I don't agree with the AOA's direction'/49ers/lack of action, etc etc.

Come on man, it costs about the same as 4 drinks in Wanchai. That is well worth your protection, as well as giving the association more leverage to improve everyone's conditions. Everyone should get on board, just for the piece of mind.

711. P155 poor excuse, the membership rates have come down considerably in the last couple of years to attract more members.
There is a huge cost in running a union, especially one that ends up in court so much like the AOA!!! (Thanks to CX)
So cut the crap excuses, check out the par proposal, even if we only get half of that, you have been covered!!!
