Be advised that the AOA (union representing over 1700 Cathay pilots) will be taking issue with the operation of 747-400 freighters by AHK. It is a violation of the CX pilots' CoS scope clause and previous AOA greements wrt AHK as an A300-600F operator.

As a new hire onto the -400F at AHK, you will represent the outsourcing of Cathay positions. As such, I would not expect to be well treated or highly regarded. I think it is better for you to know this ahead of time. Cathay has an ugly history over the past 15 years with a company facade called Aircrew Services Limited (ASL). Might want to ask some of those pilots how they were treated back in the late 90's, 00's, and even today post ASL integration.

I would think very hard about you decision about coming to work over here. It's not going to be a very warm welcome, a lot of pilots have real issues with what the company is doing regarding this outsourcing of pilot jobs!:=:=

drewteh my suggestion is to try one of the LCC in Malaysia. eg Air Asia. that way you can build some time quickly.

Skate, you're talking out of your arse. Everyone knows that 200 hour piston pilots DESERVE a 747. Haven't you noticed the sense of entitlement throughout the young ranks these days? A flight instructing job? NEVER! A regional prop? HELL NO! if it ain't Boeing, the kids ain't going. :mad:

On a seperate note, the 747 is not nearly as difficult to fly as you try to make it appear. A jetstream 31 is far more challenging.

A career ago, I and a large number of other young pilots of the time, transitioned with around 230hrs tt from Beech Barons (160kts) to Tridents (0.86M) fairly successfully.
In my case, for the first few sectors, I hadn't a clue where I was for most of the flight. DME had yet to be installed (even though it existed, the airline had a dispensation not to install it!) and the doppler thingy frequently went into 'memory' mode or ran away with itself.
But I and my contemporaries prevailed, thanks mostly due to the kindness and patience of the fatherly, experienced Captains of the day. God bless them.
So Mr Skarskate, don't be so dismissive and discouraging to an aspiring starter.
And young Drewteh, don't be put off aiming high. Give it a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained Lah!
