Americans-Jury Duty
I got called for jury duty....anyone have this before with CX? Will they let us off? with/without pay? etc, etc?
Thanks |
Negative. Had it a few months ago. Seems like CX will give you a letter to excuse you from jury duty. Problem is, the court system will just reschedule it and then you cannot get excused. If you have to get removed from flying, you will lose the pay! Cough....cough....!!
|
Is it local court or Federal court? Either case, prove to them that you work [or live] overseas, it can be postponed indefinitely.

Is "Cough....cough....!!" a sarcastic comment, means to say you think the pay is bad anyway and never mind if one loses it? |
Batman, I am sorry, I let myself be distracted by your first answerer. I was called for jury service for Hong Kong court in year 1990 but I wrote them a nice letter saying I was busy as pilot flying here there and everythere, and so they excused me.Did our territory lose a good juryman? Who knows?

exemptions
Batman seems you are exempt from jury service if you fit this category
pilots, navigators, wireless operators and other full-time members of the crews of passenger or mail or commercial aircraft; (Replaced 6 of 1955 s. 2 Just google Jury Ordinance HK Cap 3 and then read section 5 !!! But no Miranda Rights in HK !!! |
Does he mean in the USA jury duty not HK?
|
Anyone know if this applies to the uk is well for pilots (can we get excused)
|
Yeah this if for jury duty in the US ....thanks though

Just tell CX you WILL be reporting for jury duty (rather than for jail), REPORT for jury duty, and see how it goes. Work out whatever happens with CX later.
I was told I wouldn't be let off my flights by CX and told them they better find someone to do them because I'm not going to jail for not reporting for jury duty. Fortunately, I wasn't picked and didn't have to miss any flights. |
One Good and True Jury Man?
Twelve men good and true.
I think pilots conform to this better than most. I also was scared that it might destroy my flying career when called for Jury Service. If it continues like this proper justice is losing a lot. |
CX so far understands that I need to be there, that is no prob. However, I would need to go into my own leave bank to take the time and also get paid. In the states that would be illegal but then again I work for a HK company. Pluses and minuses to not being onshore I guess......fingers crossed i don't get picked for a long one.

Tell them...
"I'm a clairvoyant and therefore I would know whether a person was guilty or innocent. I would be concerned that I may not be able to convince my fellow jurors." or "I can't leave home due to the impending holocaust." In fla. I told them I was working out of town and they excused me. Good Luck. |
just tell the jury selection panel that you KNOW everybody is guilty,.....or that you have issues with the justice system....they'll leave you alone in a heartbeat!
