Work for free at CX anyone?

First its help us out with SLS....Now its;

Help us out to create a short conversion course....what the F:mad:

"We are redesigning the B744 to B777 Type Transition Course and conducting a proof of concept trial.
Basically, we are looking at best way to effectively train a Cathay B744 pilot converting to the B777 - a short differences course."

Basically they are looking for a way to save MILLIONS of dollars in short cutting training onto the B777.

But wait they are looking for VOLUNTEERS....what the F:mad:

"We are looking for volunteers pilots for the concept trial. No preparation is required, in fact we would like to discourage participants from prior preparation to ensure we uncover and gaps in the training programme. We simply need a snapshot of B744 pilot skills and an idea of the problems they might face in transition to the B777. (We don't think there will be any, but we need you to prove that conclusively!)"

Is this an airline or a flying school.

But I can assure you there will be many guys putting their hands up to go to work on their 'G' day, do a B777 sim session, then do a long haul straight after the sim session, well that perfectly legal right???!!!

We all used to do that in GA right, sweep the hanger floor for free. What a joke :ugh:

When did this come out?

Cpt. Underpants 18th Sep 2009 14:24

You wouldn't have received an email unless you're junior crew.

Amazing point of view

Strange how the cup is always half empty for some?
Coincidentally and more importantly, isn't it strange how the Anonymous Bottom-Feeders are never able to see anything good in what the company tries to do?? You know what they say about paranoia...?

If you keep drinking acid, don't be surprised if your gut burns!
Stick to beer and bellyaching?!

Fortunately, the majority of us are quite happy to jump at the chance to get in a sim have a little training for nothing in return, except our own professional eductaion. (and the advantage over the few ABFs out there.)

Vote with your feet, guys! Don't do it if you don't want to, but don't cry about it when your attitude comes homes to bite you.

This course has been in existence since 1992 - don't you think it could do with an upgrade?? It's being redesigned to make the training better for us, the pilots and it is no shorter than the previous version, so before you jump off a cliff, half-cocked, get your facts straight.

I'm all for improvement, but it should be on company time. The more people go in on their days off, the more they will expect for free.

Wrong. We see the improvement of the training as good, but we see the company's attempt at getting work from us for free as bad. The truth of the matter is that improving the training in CPA will bring it in line with the real airlines out there. This improvement will cost money, but it will also save Cathay millions in the long run. If they don't want to spend money to save more in the long run, then that is their problem.

Coincidentally, you are one of these anonymous bottom feeders you refer to in your post. :ok:

I think you might want to consider yourself in the minority for this one. Just because you are willing to sell your services cheap does not mean that I or anyone else in this forum does too.

I have no problem providing my services to Cathay but they need to properly roster me for this "extra duty" and they need to count it towards my monthly work load.

The company fights us over every penny, I can't see why we should treat them any different. I don't go to Cathay City on my days off just like you won't find any managers there on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Very simple really. Go sell yourself cheap somewhere else. :D
