ID Travel Price?

Can someone please explain why my Zoned or ID 90 (or whatever it is this week)
is such a rip off? ( I work for another low cost carrier in HKG)
ID90 on KA to HKT and back to HKG is around 30% of the Full Fare Price, Including all the Taxes and Charges.

Excuse list

1. Because they can
2. because they are @#$%'&
3. Because you need correcting on the impression that they care about your opinion
4. You haven't drunk enough it hurts less with another beer, it takes away the pain:ugh:

Out of Curiosity

Is that with a reserved seat at least?

Its actually NOT,

What you are confusing is the sale booking price and full fare.

There are many Economy fares starting with Y, then going down cheaper, B,H,K ect... when you see $2500 to HKT on KA, that is a sale Economy fare.

Full, unrestricted Y class is around $5000HKD + taxes and fees
a economy Z ticket is around $6-700 (not sure exactly as I get Business tiks)

in essence your paying about 10% of the FULL FARE.

But you are correct. MANY times you can buy confirmed SALE fare tickets for little more.

EX. Last year I had Z fare from X to Y to Z. Required 2 coupons and was about $1200 HKD. I saw online the night before the carrier had a sale, and was able to purchase tickets for 900HKD. I just kept my Z tickets and refunded and bought confirmed seats. I was Star Alliance "gold" frequent flyer, got priority tags, used lounge, it was perfect.

The one "benefit" of Z fare is flexibilty. You can TRY to come and go as you like. If you purchase a super low Y fare, often there are no changes allowed.

and that is what an id90 is! But that does not include taxes which will add to the cost, so you end up paying 30% of full fare for a standby ticket, seems reasonable to me.

I just paid HKD3400 for a business seat on Delta, which was around a 1/3rd of the full fare ey ticket, sounds reasonable to me.

Thats how Zfare came about.. back in the day if you wanted to fly HKG to NRT, then you had ID90 CX, ID90 JAL, ID90 Delta ect.. lts of cash outlay, and lots of refunds processed by the airlines.. no good for anyone.

Nobody took each others tickets (most didn't anyway, unless they were alliance/codeshare or some ****)

By zoning the fares, you can use 1 coupon for any Z carrier in your agreement on any route.. Hell I've even used one to a different city in the same zone on a more relaxed North American carrier. Even CX will let you use a Z ticket to SFO or LAX or JFK / YYZ out of HKIA.

As they are all zone 7 cities out of HKG, they all have the same value. If they were ID90's they'd all have different costs, and that wouldn't be possible.

The $3500 ticket (I assume to Tokyo) in Business is a great deal, I've been used it myself. Be sure to sign up for a SKYTEAM FF'er account, the points add up fast, + upgrades, lounge access.

CX Z in Biz would still only run you less that 1/2 that wouldn't it, but not worth the hassle.

What I really love about ID fares in CX is that the money does not go to Cathay. It is paid directly into the account of John Swire & Sons.

What a dream scheme. I love those guys...up here for thinking and down there for dancing!
