GMA Letter to Crew

You can read it in full on IntraCX, but this is the bit that  me off......

What can I do if I do not want any of these options?

You do have the option to remain on your current contract and if you do not believe the Company is facing difficulties, or do not wish to assist the Company through participation in the scheme, you do not have to elect to participate in the SLS.

This second alternative is obviously open to all but you need to understand clearly the statement that electing this option makes. Many of your colleagues have already participated in a voluntary unpaid leave (ULV) scheme. It is very likely that the vast majority of Company employees will participate in the SLS and it is therefore very likely that you will be in a very small minority of Cathay Pacific employees who have stated that they do not wish to assist the Company at this difficult time.

Sounds like a threat to me!

RAT Management 20th Apr 2009 02:37

The best defence is an offence.... Just say no to it all we the majority will all be better off in the end! Farkn carnts!

GTC58 20th Apr 2009 02:39

it's not on iconnect ....

junior_man 20th Apr 2009 02:42

the letter has been removed from intracx.......

Night Watch 20th Apr 2009 02:45

GTC58 and junior_man

Under "Crew Updates" on the Flight Crew site.... click show all

They are just a little slow putting it on the main page.

I will wait to see what the HKAOA have to say... but as of this moment, I wont be taking SLS or signing CoS08

superfrozo 20th Apr 2009 02:46

It's baaaAAAAAACK...!

And my favourite quote:

"We have been able to structure the SLS and COS 08 options such that for some, it will not be necessary to make the SLS salary sacrifice if they wish to take COS 08."

So is saving cash now an issue or not CX?!?! :yuk:

Un-f&%$en-believable.

AD POSSE AD ESSE 20th Apr 2009 02:47

Same same...

I'm tired of CX's bull:mad:

Enough is enough...

Stiflers 20th Apr 2009 03:05

Nightwatch..... It is a threat. At what point in your CX career (3 month rolling contract) have you not been continously been subjected to this sort of thing.

The fact of the matter is, a bunch of flight attendants (~1000) took the UPL.... only about 200 pilots did. Therefore, the GMA, as always, is talking s**t. He has no idea what people are going to do. ie: He can't say there is a majority of pilots taking up the SLS.

I know I won't be taking the SLS.... I can't afford it nowadays. I guess I will now be frowned upon from the CX MANAGEMENT..... oh noes!!!!

Gravox 20th Apr 2009 03:12

Talk about Scare mongering !!!

tiger321 20th Apr 2009 03:12

I'm in the same boat as Stiflers - I will be persona non grata simply because I can't afford to help out. Simple as that.

I guess I'll get over it!

For COS 99 officers this will mean that you forego the one off opportunity to increase your retirement age, you will retire from the Company at age 55. With effect from 1st July 2009 no further extensions or renewal of extension contracts will be offered. In future, it is not anticipated that extensions will be offered again.
Let me get this straight; the same company that was so visionary that they couldn't make a good hedging decision, the one that predicted the crew shortage so well that we went from the DFO claiming us to be adequately staffed to "thank god the Oasis guys became available", this same company is now visionary enough to predict that they will never increase the retirement age to 65. This could be a 30 year forecast for some of us.

There is either 1 of 2 things going on here. They think we are that dumb, or they are really not too bright themselves.

definition of a quiet flight deck

There's no threat. It's a try on.

What's the definition of a quiet flight deck?

When the loser who took unpaid leave gets on board.

Funniest thing is the story about his staff travel tickets not working on unpaid leave ... err .. loser.

Where's all the bit about all current freighter Captains getting B-scale pax pay?

advisory 20th Apr 2009 04:53

Oval 3 Holer
This is a direct lift from the DFO update:

There are a number of other significant components to the agreement, most notably the unification of Command Pay for Passenger and Freighter aircraft on the current B Scale, the addition of two more increment points on the Cos 08 F/O scale, the introduction of ‘longevity’ points for F/Os and an improvement in the Scope Clause to include Freighter aircraft. Full details of the agreement will be communicated to you all in due course.
I presume that existing freighter Captains will not get it (Bscale) until they have the seniority to hold a pax command and in future freighter vacancies will no longer exist - they will simply be -400 Command vacancies.

SMOC 20th Apr 2009 05:09

most notably the unification of Command Pay for Passenger and Freighter aircraft on the current B Scale
This may be true and in fact it already is!

However it's UNIFIED after,

1. You have completed your contracted Freighter Service (usually 3 years or extension contract now).

AND

2. Subject to holding seniority for a PAX Command, which may be 10-15 years!

So be careful when dealing with CX, what they write is intended to make you think one thing when it actually means another. :=

If it's to good to be true, it usually is! :(

ACMS 20th Apr 2009 05:12

And don't forget the extendees KEPT their original seniority number.

So when they come accross to B Scale Pax pay they will also be VERY SENIOR crew that will be able to hold/bid for a base AHEAD of the rest of you.

cpdude 20th Apr 2009 05:17

I hope ALL Canadian Based A scalers refuse to sign! With on-shore happening Jan 2010, once you are Canadian employed the company will rudely find out it's illegal to force 55 retirement or adjust salary to B Scale at 55.

You can be A scale until 65 in Canada.

One more reason this on-shore bit is going to be real fun!:ok:

One thing I am curious about that someone raised recently...will all the YVR based Freighter Captains now be on Pax pay under COS 08? This issue is NOT CLEAR!

SMOC 20th Apr 2009 05:42

All the COS 08s that I could open still have Freighter pay so assume Command Freighter pay is still alive and strong.

Cavallier 20th Apr 2009 05:47

What about F/Os on HK Freighter base?? Am not quite sure what "First Officer salary scales are unified." meansas far as salary if you elect to go on COS 08??

Under the paragraph "Retained Benefits," who are these folks?

"Officers in receipt of COS 99 Green Page Salary Scale will continue to do so until the earlier of either attaining age 55 or 31st December 2013."
