Does anyone have anything good to say about CX?
 
Hello, I cant find any good comments on this board about CX. There has to be something good about it. If it is that bad, are you comparing it to conditions in the US right now, or somewhere else or to CX of yesteryear?

I would like to think I am a glass is half full type of person... and as far as I am concerned the service I received from benefits centre whilst organising my resignation was exemplary.

My tax bill hasn't gone up much over the last 8 years thanks to Nick!

I don't have so much pesky free time now as I had 8 years ago as our average hours has gone up from 580 to 700.

Most of us are in overtime in order to minimize Nick's 'missed opportunities'.

Its easier choosing to see a doctor now as so many have removed themselves off the CX panel - it was so difficult deciding who to see a few years ago.

I don't need to worry about time to command as CX keeps letting in direct entry CNs from other organisations so command course is a long way off.

See, there's lots of things good to say about CX!

That's a pretty good thumbnail sketch as I remember it.

Too much hammering detail which makes the line pilot think "Should I be doing this now?" instead of running a comfortable and relaxed operation.
Comment from trainer challenged re CX training attitude "I'm not there to relax them. If they can't stand the stress I give them how will they cope with a real emergency?"
The administration and facilities are OK. Company hotel handy for based crew nightstops BUT there's the old Cathay Club problem of suits in attendance when the boys have a beer too many and say their piece or throw their peanuts.:p
The big thing is to remember you are not working in W Europe or N America; this is a foreign airline and they can do as they wish.

I felt for most people who were 'failed' or just told CX to shove it. Any of you reading this; Don't let your self esteem suffer - you ARE a pilot and, perhaps you did yourself a favour.

What I really like about CX is the new PAYE system installed in Europe now. It is really a lot more convenient than the old system. Plus you see immediately how great your salary is. I also appreciate the training culture, ERAS is just a perfect tool to evaluate your performance, and it is always just and fair. But the absolute best about CX is that the pay in Hong Kong is pegged to the U$. Forget all the hassle with changing currency rates!

You should have joined on the best A/C in the CX fleet...........yes the 777.

The training is pretty good, the checking pretty fair and the line flying is great without any "long Sleeve" types around.

Overall a very relaxed operation.

My tax bill has gone up significantly in the last 8 years. I have not had a pay increase but my housing, schooling, travel fund are all taxed and my disposable income has dropped significantly.:rolleyes::{

Regardless of your position, all our tax bills have increased without a pay rise, but that is another thread.:ouch:

With regard to the Training, suck it up, it will not change. Over time you get accustom to the beatings. :ok:

Same thing with you conditions of service and benefits. Welcome to Cathay Pacific.:{

After long and hard considerations.
Two positive things to say are; You only have 3 months notification when you resign - and you can pay your way out of it to. Now thats positive for sure!! :ok::D:ok:

So the 777 is the better plane, and no one likes the 747, what about the airbus? do you guys fly both the 340 and 330 or is it one or the other? Also, where are the crew rest bunks on the 777 and airbus and how are they?

I have almost nothing but good things to say about CX and i've been here for over 3 years!

1. The pay is better 1st year then any US carrier hiring.

2. I got my first choice of base (LAX).

3. More vacation then ANY US carrier (6 weeks).

4. I work 12 days a month, 1 four day trip, 1 eight day trip.

5. I fly with GREAT guys!

Negitives:

some anti-Americanism and some grumpy checkers.

I'm going to get hammered for sure on this websight, but alot of guys are actually the same guy and have hidden agendas.

I would love for some of these guys to try flying for US Air or Frontier, or maybe even Skybus or Aloha.

To the pounder.

The 747-400 training environment is improving. The current fleet management and training management seem to want to emphasise the positives in a trainees performance rather than the negatives.

There are still a couple or three bad apples in the training system; one a very senior STC who is universally despised and, surprisingly two relatively new TCs, but we are hoping that our new brush in training will recognise the need to sweep them away.

CX good. In my years in CX I have seen an improvement in the training system. If you have been in the company less than three years you may not believe how bad it used to be.

CX bad. Most of the boys have not had a significant payrise in eight years. Some have not had one since '93.

Rosters on 400 can be brutal if you have an unlucky week.
