CX Corporate Policy
Since the DFO and Swire have terminated the Chief Pilot Boeing 777 for an error in judgment, then we all must have a think about corporate policy in Cathay Pacific.
For example if any Captain decides to use discretion for whatever reason, just be aware you are taking that risk/responsibility solely on your shoulders. You may be putting other crew members career at risk while using discretion (not that some care). How many CX Captains would not use discretion if the First Officer said he/she was fatigued? If you happen to get mud on the tires for whatever reason and Cathay Pacific has bad PR such as a posting on you tube, your career here is over. Ask yourself, why take the chance? At the D&G (if you are afforded one) the Pilot Managers will scramble to protect Cathay Pacific (and themselves) and state that you had a choice not to use discretion but chose to. You (and your crew) are on your own. Good luck with your career. A Second Officer or First Officer will not have a choice to be demoted to line pilot. The Chief Pilot of your fleet will not protect you as you are acutely aware they cannot even protect themselves. Think about it. Same Team Same Dream…………..Welcome to “The FIRM”. |
Good point, CX pilots do take note! However take heart that it's true everywhere albeit to a slightly lesser degree.

Furthermore, no matter how company minded you are or have been; working G days etc and going the 'extra mile' thinking that it may pay personal dividends in the future........wrong.
This is a reminder lesson to all who think that the company has any sympathy or feelings for their pilots & engineers no matter how high they climb up the limited ladder, they do not. You are just a licence that helps them make huge profits. Remember NJ who used to threaten newbies during the arrival interviews with a ticket home if they stepped out of line or failed to make the CX grade? That attitude is still here. |
I went up to the cathay club for a beer after a flight one night in '94.
It was NJ's retirement party. We were the only 2 there!! Nice guy!!!!!! |

The outcome will be no different but if you are not into discretion, you may be a bit more alert and not have an error in judgment. Why some continue to use 2-3 hours of discretion is well........., maybe its fear.:{:=:ugh:
I have heard some using discretion to get the passengers where they want to go, but at what risk to you and other crew members. In this corporate environment, why take the chance?:ok: With Typhoon season coming up, why push it. One little scrape and you will be sent home packing. Plane spotters like to video tape some hairy landing and it may end up on you tube. We all know what happens next.:ok: I hear all the pilot managers and STC’s just took a vote for limited industrial action to protect of their fallen comrades. I hear it was in the area of 94% for LIA.:E:ok: Standby for the action to be announced or not.:{ Those pilots may go golfing to slow down the training machine and put NR in a pickle so he cannot crew the former Chief Pilots aircraft.:D:ok: I must stop drinking cheap wine.:yuk::yuk::yuk: |
New to Earth
Bloggs are you new to this planet? I have never been under any illusion just where the buck stops, and that when push comes to shove the senior management will act in the best interests of themselves and the company. It's pretty much like that everywhere to a greater or lessor degree. Try not to let it ruin your life, just act accordingly.:ugh:

It’s not me that need the teaching but thanks anyway. Always knew where I stood.:ok:

BTC
The btc in the right seat. Hmmmmmmm didn't he cover this up as well? He was lucky.
|
The BTC involved is a great guy. A real gentleman and a dying breed.

bobrun,
I think the "cheap wine" is the bit you should concentrate on!!!:} |
Rather late system diagnosis Bloggs, on which planet have you lived all these years?
Now that the cat has chopped off one of its own paws some finally take note. I agree with the sentiments of many others here: Those who live by the sword die by the sword, the concerned Gentleman had no hesitation partaking in company retribution acts and ruining other peoples careers and lives at the chamber table. :yuk: |
BusyB, at least someone can see through the chaff.:ok:
Sorry blokes the last part was a wind up. Do you really think management pilots or the Training Pilots would do such a thing? They have their empire to protect.:= I agree, what goes around come around. I really hope he and all the management pilots know where they stand. I am sure now the 777 CP knows what he put the 49ers through, for “No particular reason” I may add.:ugh: Like I said before “Hang them all”.:ok: Now when NR tells a CP to call “Mr. Bloggs” into the office for a sickness management letter, how will he react? I know the KA secondment bloke and the Bible pusher will not have a problem pushing the CX line as they believe they are still protected (they will continue to pull the CX line) but what about the rest? Maybe the GMA will be delegated this task.:ugh: How will the FOP be re-shuffled? I am sure most managers are maneuvering into position as we speak. How many managers will continue to rule by intimidation? How many pilots will continue to be intimidated?:sad: How many pilot managers have lost faith in NR?:D:D Will NR weekly update happen and if it does it may be rather short. Maybe he will delegate it to the GMA and slither away.:O |
