not the protestors or the 150 bombs the authorities have diffused so far, or the 3 tons of explosives the terrorists were caught with or the repeated shutting down of the airport that would eventually put the airline out of business or the peaceful protestors who threaten to beat any shopkeepers that don’t close their stores in support of their peaceful protest.

Of the attempts to derail the MTR trains with large loss of life or the attempts to get airside and damage aircraft, again with loss of life.

Why idiots like you support terrorists who hate expats and capitalism and are hell bent on destroying big business in hkg I’ll never know.

Yes, Mainland China is good. This bill creates greater liberty and better business. Who is the idiot? Go work in the Mainland if you love it so much.

Do you hate all Muslims because some are terrorists? The same or different? Btw, what does the Mainland do to Muslims, take a look out West...

Need a Hammer ?

China, in its awesome wisdom, is now supplying the final nail in the coffin for HK and CX... Just a few more taps over the next week or so and it's done.. Hong Kong will forever lose it's already greatly eroded advantage !

Chinese contracts and "Social Credit Measurement System"
to follow...

But then don't worry folks, I'm sure Merlin is on top of this situation....

Well, I guess we have to choose between the local “terrorists” and the ChiComs. Talk about a crappy choice! No room for a middle ground? Whatever happened to “one country, two systems“? Seems the brutal Chinese dictator isn’t so patient after all. He is 27 years early. I suppose this is the first shot in the new Cold War. Probably not a bright future in Hong Kong.

Xi loves you... You get 10 social points and a free deep-fried bat.

I do not like the Donald but at least he dares to speak out for Hongkong. The rest of the West stays silent and let China get away with murder & gulags.

No, just the end of freedom, liberty, rights, due process, etc. No big deal! At least the ChiComs “like” expats and “capitalism”, because that’s most important in the big scheme of things.

Are you seriously suggesting Hong Kong doesn’t have laws that prohibit bomb making, derailing trains, riots, unlawful protests, assault, trespassing into restricted areas, sabotage, etc?

What China really fears which currently isn’t illegal is a government sanctioned protest by a population who wish to be heard but don’t have a voice at the ballot box.

Nope, you have to choose between terrorists and ChiComs. A false choice if there ever was one.

Unfortunately the time for middle ground has more than likely passed. Look at our airport - it's like Fort Knox. Look at the damage and destruction that the HK people rained on our city - the closing of the cross harbour tunnel for a few weeks by violent demonstrators, deaths and injuries sustained. The time for the middle ground was then........by walking away and disowning the violence. That did not happen. Let's be clear - the violence and demonstrations only stopped because of Covid-19. Over recent weeks we have seen a resurgence of small demonstrations and I'm pretty certain that will lead to where we were in the latter half of last year. That will not serve anyone well. Pause for thought here, and think - would China be implementing this new law if all the events of last year had been peaceful. Probably not. Maybe we are getting what we asked for.

None of you really cares about the freedom of the locals.

It's all about your own career and income.

Never ready, a simple thought experiment. Let's assume there would be a bombing in your home country, but also millions of peaceful protesters. Would you then as a consequence of the bombings agree to martial law and loss of freedom for the entire population? Surely not. You care about your job and "your" airport, that is where you draw the line. Because in the end you plan to leave this place once your bank account is big enough, to live in your home country with all those coveted first world human rights you sneeze on right now.

Cxorcist, how many final nails in your imaginary coffin are you planning to announce? It must get tiring after all those years. You also must see that as long as you stay, your doomsday predictions are not believable. We all know there is a risk involved here. We all do from day one. And yet we all have a reason to stay, just like you. Now more than ever. What is the point of your decade long rant against an employer that you freely chose?? Against a country you freely chose to live in??

Just a reminder that the events of last year were precipitated by China, disguised as the HKG govt, implementing a "new law". The protests began peacefully and became violent due to the incompetent response (more accurately, non-response) of the HKG govt. Note that I did not say the police... In my view they were also victims as much as anyone...

I'm hoping that you can appreciate that many of us are "locals" in all but race ... with spouses, kids, friends and all the accoutrements of life built over decades here, by choice. Here, not elsewhere. We have exactly the same stakes and interest in the outcome that you do.

When the money, businesses and jobs leave HKG, there won't be much of anything left in terms of "career and income" for anyone.

"The damage the HK people rained on OUR City" ???????????? WTF.
If I'm not mistaken it's THEIR city and THEIR the only ones pushing back because THEIR the ones who, in the end, have to deal with the hordes from the North..
And at what point in the last 20 years has China accepted "middle ground" ?? Read more !

where I am from we do care more about Putin (and maybe Erdogan) than Xi unfortunately. Very few care about HK. Although Taiwan is being acknowledged.

But to answer your question. Voters vote for themselves... So I miss your point completely.
