I agree with some of his advice but to state that this virus cannot last on hard surfaces is absolute rubbish , scientists worldwide have ascertained that this virus can survive on hard surfaces for up to 28 hours which s what makes it so dangerous .
the airlines need to treat all seats and surfaces with UV light preferably on every turnaround but at least once per day . A company has produced a device that has extendable wings with multiple UV lights that disinfects the seats as it is moved up and down the aisles , galleys and toilets are also treated . A simple cost effective method of slowing the spread of this virus , but of course it costs money so will be discarded by the airlines especially when doctors are coming out making ridiculous statements that this virus cannot live on hard surfaces .

Please could we have a source for that, of comparable stature to the chief medical advisor of IATA?

Sorry Paul , typo I should have proof read better ,

Research has found links between the SARS virus and the latest corona virus Our structural analyses confidently predict that the Wuhan coronavirus uses ACE2 as its host receptor," the investigators wrote. That and several other structural details of the new virus are consistent with the ability of the Wuhan coronavirus to infect humans and with some capability to transmit among humans.

"Alarmingly, our data predict that a single mutation [at a specific spot in the genome] could significantly enhance [the Wuhan coronavirus's] ability to bind with human ACE2," the investigators write. For this reason, Wuhan coronavirus evolution in patients should be closely monitored for the emergence of novel mutations at the 501 position in its genome, and to a lesser extent, the 494 position, in order to predict the possibility of a more serious outbreak than has been seen so far.

The research is published in the Journal of Virology, a journal of the American Society for Microbiology. The study provides the basic, translational and public health research communities with predictive insights that may help study and battle this novel coronavirus.

bear in mind that the Spanish flu was thought to originate in the trenches of WW1 brought about by close association of pigs , birds and humans in unhygienic conditions , it was then spread worldwide by returning soldiers and killed up to 50 million people, for some unknown reason most of those worst affected were young 20-40 .

In the Wuhan market they put people and live animals awaiting slaughter for human consumption all in close proximity. The animals reportedly included wolves, pigs , bats ,chickens snakes, civet cats and dogs. This made it easy for a virus to jump from animals to humans . What could possibly go wrong with that scenario ?

? None of which says survival of 28 days. Maybe you are thinking of the film?

'can persist on inanimate surfaces like metal, glass or plastic for up to 9 days, but can be efficiently inactivated by surface disinfection procedures with 62-71% ethanol, 0.5% hydrogen peroxide or 0.1% sodium hypochlorite within 1 minute.'
