No kidding. Even with all that Mainland money, HKA is still going to the bottom of the trench. They might be one of the most poorly managed airlines of all time. Every time I hear about China as the next superpower, I think of outfits like HKA and stop worrying. Their system of oppression and cronyism doesn’t work. Cheap labour only gets you so far!

With today’s news of CX getting help from the HK government when is HKA going to get a slice of the pie? We are bleeding more than CX, losing pilots and other staff every week. Doesn’t seem right that CX, being a majority foreign owned airline is getting propped up when HKA could be the official HK flag carrier going forward.

it depends how you define foreign owned. Maybe a good idea to lobby in Bejing

I sympathise about people losing their jobs but giving help to HKA is like flogging a dead horse.

Globocnik

That's a very good question - who does own HKA these days?

prickly

Why is that oh Learned one? Seems you have the answer as to which airline is worth saving thus keeping all personnel employed!! Would it be different if someone with your esteemed ability worked at HKA?? Or maybe wouldnt consider their employment since they are a dead horse...

when is HKA going to get a slice of the pie?

My understanding is that CX were not given a "slice of the pie", it is not a handout, but agreed the finances involved are indeed large, but they need to be paid back.
Any lender choosing to lend cash if that volume, would clearly do significant due diligence on the entity to whom the cash is being lent.
If HKA had applied, and were knocked back, then that should give you some idea of what the government thinks of HKA's ability to repay.
If HKA didn't apply, then no doubt they may shortly do so.
Good luck.

From HKA

First of all, I imagine most of you is aware of the worrying news that is going around: HNA bankruptcy.

I have been asked to share the following news from the VPFO.
1. This is a planned restructure.
2. This is as per schedule.
3. There will be no change in HKA structure
4. Hainan Aviation group and HKA will operate as normal.

To expand a bit on the subject, HNA is divided in 3 sections:
HNA Group, HNA Aviation and HNA Airlines.
Only HNA Group has filed for bankruptcy and this won't affect the other two divisions.
It was a willful decision to restructure HNA and to allow new investors to join.
