Unfortunate situation. If I’m not mistaken, pilots with HK Airlines depend largely on the hourly pay, with a guaranteed pay based on something like 40 hours a month?

I wish everybody involved the best of luck.

Cant afford to pay the staff , cant afford to pay the IFE supplier, surely the HKCAD have to step in to put an end to this soon. I would post the URL but despite having been registered for many years and many posting it says I cant post URL's until I have 10 postings.... if you want to find it just look at the HK airlines website news.

Inflight entertainment system out of service
Hong Kong Airlines' inflight entertainment system will be out of service from 1 December 2019 until further notice.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers. Hong Kong Airlines will work with our vendor to resume the service as soon as we can.

It's 50 hours and you're in the minority if you fly above that.

I guess December 6th is somewhat D Day for HKA. Good luck to everyone over there.

No IFE

As of today 1st Dec no IFE. Can only guess that it is another bill that hasn’t been paid.

Financial issues only in HKA or for the complete HNA group?

Beijing Capital A330 was repossessed in Melbourne last week for unpaid bills. Flight left 24 hours later. Obviously bill was paid. They are part of the Hainan group.

When the HNA CEO popped his clogs while stepping backwards over cliff ostensibly while taking a selfie, the writing was always on the wall.

Diverting staff salaries to pay for fuel and insurance is just rearranging the deck chairs.

Don’t worry. CX will come to the rescue with a very special HKA pilot rescue package! This new package will exploit to the fullest any and all desperation involved in the collapsing company crafted to meet the specific needs of an HKA pilot in search of employment. As HKA crew already live in HK they certainly don’t need housing. Already used to 50 hours of HKA pay per month? CX will match that too as your new guaranteed monthly salary as long as you fly 90 hours a month. The new POS will, however, have to overcome the objections of the pilots of all previous POSs including the strongly worded letter from the AOA to the company posted on PPrune. Once making it through the highly rigorous training program of intimidation, fear, and ridicule you will be able to proudly wear The Mark forever branded across your forehead. Exciting times!

I think everyone needs to come to terms with the likelihood of HKA collapsing imminently. Thereby releasing hundreds of HK licensed pilots onto the Hong Kong market. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise what effect that will have on the pay and conditions at CX for the foreseeable future. Certainly I wouldn't be counting on that pay raise (or anything else). HKA pilots will agree to basically anything to continue to fly in HK. It WILL effect the conditions at CX for years to come.

Very true, but some of this lost capacity will be brought back online by HKE, which is where most of them will probably end up flying. Hope CX has plans to aggressively pursue this market share...

Colleagues who are working in management have told me that nearly all expansion now will be with HKE. The bigger question apparently is what to do with CX/KA. With CX basically becoming a smaller airline (quicker winding down of the 777ER fleet than originally planned), they effectively now have too many pilots. KA by some metrics has a higher cost basis. None of the factors are positive for an improvement to current conditions of pay or benefits sadly. A shutdown of HKA will be a very big nail in a very small coffin. Good luck to all, but effectively the cards are once again stacked in managements favour. Can't say i'm sorry to have recently left.

Great to read "mngmt mole" and "Trafalgar" are back onsite, if only from a distance. This site has been all the duller since their departure with most posts from idiots actually applying to join CX. A bit like trying to buy a last-minute ticket on the Titanic.
CX and KA are dying on their feet. The upper and lower management haven't a clue what to do and even old Agustus has applied for early retirement on medical grounds. He is rarely anywhere near CX City and hides in his office in North Point these days.
The recent CFIT training error just shows how poor the 3rd floor management are. A mere 5 years to put it in place and they left it to the last 3 months. Watch this space for a strong CAD rebuke. The latest offering from the CEO lays the ground for a NO 13th month announcement this Thursday. KA will of course receive theirs (contractually) even though it is the main source of the profits hemorrhaging within the group. The FAU has already decided to call for a walkout if the CA's don't receive theirs. The official leaving rate from GMA is now 8% and over 10% amongst new SO's. The expansion is now a 3% contraction next year and 2021. The only major palyer in Asia to announce such.

And where is the AOA in all this ? Well making the most expensive lanyards in history of course.
It aint looking good.

Sorry to participate in the hijacking of another airline's thread.

By some metrics? We are not running an industrial campaign - which from rants here must be incredibly expensive by some metrics.

well there is some good news which literally happened 30 minutes ago. HNA just took a 40 billion CNY loan from 8 governmental banks in mainland China for an annual interest rate of 4.75%. Hopefully they will inject most or some of it into HKA. Fingers crossed guys...
