Why bother trying?

Shame on you, blocking on at 0531, despite trying your very best. Time to move beyond getting taxis for the cabin crew when all it is doing is reducing your personal hours. Think HDP, EFP, 900hrs.

I never did try TBH - certainly not in respect of getting taxis for CC.

During an LA flight asked the ISM if anyone was going back to Sai Kung area to share a cab with, their response that even if there were they would not want to share a taxi. I think you can guess what happened to the on blocks time....

Interestingly, you are actually entitled to take an empty seat!

I've been reading this forum without comment for over 10 years. Can't say how happy I am to have turned down my CX offer at the start of my career. C'mon over to Canada ladies and gentlemen. Who cares about seniority right now, I'd take YYZ reserve on a narrow body over that hell hole any day!

I tried once to share a cab with a cabin crew member , she was very accommodating but the cab driver was adamant that he was only allowed allowed to take cabin crew not cockpit crew . He suddenly changed his mind when we suggested that a good tip would be in order . Problem solved !

i do however have some sympathy with the poster ,to miss a cab by a couple of minutes is very frustrating, but starting at 6am the usual public transport is all up and running. She probably has no concept of the intricacies involved getting an aircraft from A-B . I’m sure the crew did everything to help out, but we don’t control the winds or ATC or runway in use .
Temper all of that with the fact that the cockpit crew are often on overtime so shaving 5 mins off a fight time is of no benefit to us , especially if you have been told on previous occasions that they wouldn’t share transport with you .

One time we tried very hard to be there in time for a taxi, only to get delays in Hong Kong, and blocking in a few minutes past.
Like a bunch of children, some got whiny about it, much like the post above.
This is after you stick you neck out to to make it in early...
After this happened, and the arrival time is close, I tell them there is no chance we make it on time, so there is no expectation of it.

If it's looking close, I slow down to ensure it's not "close".

This. Spot on.

Like most folks I am sensitive to others needs and will try to make it if it can safely be done iaw SOP. Think most everyone does this.

Problem is that it’s impossible to shave more than a couple of minutes — no matter what non flyers have been told — and a little more speed burns a lot more gas — gas that we’ll need. And you never know what kind of close in ATC delays, ground delays or gate you’ll get.

It’s always easier to go from a loss to a win than the other way around. So if everyone thinks there’s little or no chance and we later make it it’s a bonus. Rather than resentment caused by unrealistic expectations.

Couldn't agree more BLSN. Had an offer from AC about 20 years ago and boy do I wish I had taken it now! Look at my mates schedules at AC, one in particular that joined at the point I was offered a course. All I looked at was the monthly salary and that was a huge mistake!

Mike,

Our cabin crew get a “free” taxi ride home as long as we block on on or before 0530 HK time. This crew posted his/her rant that since they blocked on at 0531....1 minute late.... they no longer get their taxi - and assumed it was done intentionally.

This attitude represents a large majority of the entitled snowflake generation we employ. Ruins it for the good ones out there.

Come on, they make at least ten times less than you. I know different jobs bla bla bla, but you can't blame them for looking forward to these small perks.

Your point is acknowledged, however, the original intent behind the free taxi ride home was never one of money but one of safety.

In the early days of CLK, public transport was not as prevalent as it is today and there was concern for the “girls” getting home safely in the early hours of the morning. However, when it was pointed out that male FA’s were getting a taxi and female pilots were not, it quickly morphed from safety into money, like most things in this company.

Perk or not, I would say that a new joiner s/o would be on almost an equal footing financially with our more senior FA’s and especially the more recent PoS18 recipients.

No, it is not representative, neither of the 10000 plus flight attendants in Cathay, nor the snowflake generation since you don't even know the age of the person who allegedly posted that.

It is however very representative of YOUR generation. Angry old white men frustrated by the slow demise of their entitlements.

Hugo, you are a sad and miserable man.The only purpose of your post is to stir rabble-rousing propaganda. I am truly embarrassed to share the same company and profession.

No, STW, he may not know the age of the OP, just as YOU don't know he is white.
