CX C&T'ers Last Stand
I have it on good authoritty that CX C7T'ers have drafted a letter to GMA/GMT saying the new conscription policy is not acceptable. Drafted by a former manager it is supposedly independantof the AOA but has sprinklings of AOA throughout.
The letter has not been formerly sent but a draft was leahed to senior management who replied they would look at it seriously. Then yesterday GMT in the weekly pravda announces the new policy is robust and working. There's a slap in the face for the very seniour guys in C&T who admit this is their last stand.
So, if every C&T'er resigned on 1st May with immediate effect what would CX management do ?

The letter is probably more about protecting the little empire that the trainers have. Too many new recruits and there is a little more competition for their preferential leave, bids, EFP etc.

Yup.....THAT'll Show 'em.
Here's the plan. Train refugee (who will do anything to escape where they are) and indigenous pilots (who've bought into some of the kool aid and really don't know any better) on POS 18. Training your replacements who don't yet know their throat's been cut by those who have come before them and really have no idea what the place is like. Offer a few cookies down the road to the aging replacement pilots to string them along--at ever declining conditions reference any previous contracts but enough to hang on to them until the 'Las Vegas' syndrome kicks in and they're entrenched. Staying in the trap they've made for themselves. Chasing a fleeting carrot. Gotta hand it to them; pretty shrewd on the company's part. But the internet is a wonderful thing and at least now the fish biting at the bait know that cost of living is WAYYYYYYY high in HKG and that they are probably better off almost anywhere else (at least with what they're getting paid reference the COLA). Perhaps the 'you might get a base' con will work--apparently it works amongst folks who've been here a while and should know better--so there you are.
I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone who joined in the modern internet age. Nor will I listen to any bee hatching or whining. Unlike some in the past you knew damn well what you were getting into so suck it up or leave.
What are the options for everyone else ? Well, letters ain't gonna do it. Perhaps a scab list might provide some deterrent but (unlike other places) that doesn't seem to have much effect here.
The clock is ticking--can the Company get its manning squared away before older guys punch out. Training their replacements is essential.
SO, given the imposition of POS 18 and now this, the options are:
Strike
Convince an external regulator or POI (either individually or as the Union) that the training draft creates a hazardous environment for operations within THEIR country (better have some facts and evidence to back this up).
Resign yourself to the fact that the HKAOA has become irrelevant as a collective negotiating body and has become more of a welfare and insurance group with some voice on more trivial matters. If this bothers you to the point of consternation it's probably best to leave now before you lose more of your life.

The plan now is to call a temporary halt to the TB to let the good guys join C&T then re-instate to keep the rest out. Ask around and you'll find it's all true.

... when was their FIRST stand? Or are these one and the same? Did they stand against B scale? Freighter scale? C scale? D scale / POS18? Now “imposed” non-volunteer trainers?
If history is our guide, the current lot of C&Ters will do NOTHING, other than continue to train their cheaper and, in many cases, less capable replacements.
Smart guys, but in this case, as in the past, very unwise!

Whatever mate.
So there must be a "list" of Captains considered good guys. I wonder who constructed the list and what qualities were needed.
Surely, since any trainer will be training their cheaper replacements, thus driving down their own T&C's, then by default no wannabe trainer can be considered a "good guy".
More than happy to be educated on this paradox.

Had to chuckle when I heard that the Captain who removed himself from the TC course in March is now not considered suitable for a course.....seems the Managers didn't think he was pro-company enough in the words he used to remove himself from the course.
Reminds me so much of EK, almost by a process of osmosis many eligible and capable individuals decided they wanted no part in the training department despite the company being desperately short, it was all done individually as a matter of principle. Those individuals who out of principle did the right thing were literally and metaphorically shoved out of the way by the many (mainly South American’s) who were desperate to see that wonderful star next to their (in many cases) newly acquired 4th stripe.

A quick search of the July roster for special code AX will show those upgrading from TC to STC.

It's curious, but there does seem to be an institutional lack of moral fibre amongst the pilots on the Airbus fleet. Just an observation. Ultimately, nothing surprises me anymore at CX. Come back in 15 years of so, and it will be just another sh *tty asian airline (and not far off now for that matter). Any hope of a proper airline career is now long gone at this airline. Congrats to the pilots who are selling any semblance of dignity out for a few more bucks. Training your eventual cheaper replacements. The slow, sad decline of Cathay Pacific Airways.

Not to detract from the sentiment of your post, but I’d suggest the reason the Airbus is over-represented in the scab ranks presently is due to it being the fleet in greatest need of trainers.
The 777 is a stagnant fleet, and there’s not much happening on the 747 these days. Hence a much lesser need to ‘force’ volunteers into training on the B side.

....well, I appreciate your comment (and it's accurate as to the circumstances), but i'm looking back in a historical perspective...and my comment stands. Something "off" in the Airbus world.

There may be something off in Team A, but as far as training "your cheaper replacements" is concerned, then surely that blame needs to be placed at the feet of the A scalers? After all if they'd refused to train the B scalers, maybe you wouldn't be here, MM? Nor I, for that matter.
If that's the road we are going down then the same applies to BA and QF: they have all trained their cheaper replacements. (AF and LH as well as far as I know). Only government jobs appear to have increasing wages in the last two decades.

I'm not doing a thing until we get another survey or at least a strongly worded letter on the subject !! Only then will I "Move Beyond, Service from the cart, time to whinge " or whatever.....Bring back Barry White's song !
