Question Initial Assessment SO (second officer) Cathay Pacific

Hello

I was just wondering how many of us were sent emails to be invited to sit the initial testing. I hear 4000 people apply per year so was curious whether this number has increased. Just want to know how many people will be sitting the initial stage, because I thought they would've already weeded out someone so academically un-gifted like me before preliminary assessment. Not sure if they just accept anyone who applies or did they do some filtering before sending emails out.

Don’t stress. Rumour has it that because hardly anyone is accepting the new COS18 contract the recruitment department has been instructed to call back previously rejected candidates for reassessment. They will now ,miraculously, be found suitable if they are prepared to accept the contract. So if you have a pulse then the likelihood of passing selection is excellent!

Hi bmt.
Before everyone else gets here and the circus really kicks off, I'll throw in my 2 cents.
The new COS 18 contract is a big concern for anybody wanting any form of stable career/income. Read carefully and understand the implications before proceeding.

Just when we all thought CX had hit rock bottom, the Management finds a way to go subterranean. Why am I even surprised? Is it now officially more difficult to become CX cabin crew than and a pilot? Maybe the cabin crew could double as pilots, a back to front conversion of sorts.

At least they'd know what they're getting themselves in to. CX recruitment hasn't given a straight answer to any pilot recruit for years.

I am academically ungifted and applied because I saw the Instagram pilots posting cool stuff and their cool life.. I failed a few months ago (before new CoS), was told to attend selection after the new CoS was announced. I was offered but I turned it down because I don't see a future with this company and I will never get that stable cool life.

Anyone who knows what the latest t&c's of this entry is? I've heard that you will need to fund a part of the training.

cant give specifics but right from the get go you can expect to earn about half of what a COS08 SO will be earning, heaven forbid you are sick and fly less which will reduce your pay further

How much is it for advance entry? Does one need to bring money in, or any arrangements with the company is provided?

So are you saying that I need to keep away from cx and wait for the tide to turn? When is that gonna happen?

No, he's obviously not saying you should stay away and wait for the tide to turn.
It will never turn (not in your favour, anyway)
The reality is
Low initial salary
Massive training bond
Expensive housing
No overtime, ever
You'll be at the bottom of a 1000 strong second officer "seniority" list
Advancement from SO to JFO is currently at 5 years and could easily reach 10 years or more
The airline is not growing in pilot numbers (seats, sure, but not airframe drivers)
Crewing compliment is being driven by accountants, not safety, and CN, FO, 2 x SO will be the norm
Apart from a swathe (±150) of retirements of A scale legacy pilots in the next 3 or so years, there are a lot of relatively young captains who will not be reaching retirement age for at least 25 years
You'll be poor and unable to afford to purchase any property in HKG, ever
Caveat emptor

Someone posted the COS18 contract on the CX cadet program thread over on South East Asia Wannabes. If anyone wants to see for themselves exactly what the contract entails.

HK ab initio cadets now have to pay 50% of their training, funded by not receiving the HKPA allowance for the first 3 years of their employment. It doesn't apply to others

Don't forget that AE and TT SOs no longer receive the incentive payment worth over 500K

Hi all,

I had sent the application and the forms / documents on 8th Jan, 2019. Still no news about further process.
anyone like to share their experience if this is normal or how much time it is going to take approx to hear a call for an interview / subsequent selection process.

Thanks

Hi,
If this true, i had sent application with forms 8th Jan, no positive response so far. Once asked on email, they said that they would assess the application later once they have more invites with documents sent.

any idea?

Does anyone here know or been through the computerized assessment (90 min)? I'm asking precisely what are the names of the test you have experienced on the Cut - e? for example: monitoring test, complex control , multitasking etc. Thank you and feel free to contact me on WhatsApp +85266771552.
