HK AME needed

Hello all,

I have a bit of a dilemma. I normally see Dr. Cocks or Dr. O'Tremba for my medical but they are both on leave the one and only day I am in HKG in February. Do any of you have a recommendation for a non CX AME? Right now I am scheduled with the only one I absolutely refuse to see and will come to HKG while on leave if necessary to see Dr. Cocks when he comes back. I'm hoping that one of you has experience with someone else on the list. Unfortunately, the day I am there is the 4th of February so I have a feeling just about all of them will be on leave for CNY. Thanks in advance.

This sounds EXACTLY how CX rosters all critical components that "can't" be missed..

Get used to it....

After nearly 12 years, sadly, I am used to it. However, the fact remains that I need to do my medical in February.

Surely you received a notification that your medical needed renewing in Feb when your roster came out on the 15th Jan. ? Could you not have made a booking immediately ? Also ( presuming you are under 60 ) you have known about your renewal month for 12 months and done nothing ? ITS YOUR LICENCE look after it.

There are Hkg AMEs dotted around the world. Why not see one in your home country? The CAD website had a list of AMEs around the world.

Why not see the CX doctors. They will get you through
Been to the others and to CX, I couldn’t tell the difference, but all those doctors look the same to me

Yes, thanks for pointing out the obvious and having no constructive information to share. I am rostered to be in HKG one day in Feb and as you astutely pointed out, I found out about that on 15 Jan. However, that ONE day I am there just happens to be the day before Chinese New Year and all three of the doctors I would normally see are all on leave at the same time. Since it is my license and my duty to look after it, that is what I sought to do with this forum post. I'm looking for recommendations for other doctors that others have seen personally. I'm sorry that the three doctors in question do not check with me during the previous 12 months before they schedule their leave.

Unfortunately the only one in N. America is still on the list but no longer does CAD medicals. Even that one was not in my home country but closer than the others. Apparently he no longer wishes to deal with the CAD. I have one primary and two backups and never seen them all on leave at the same time before. I am not based in HKG.

I have gotten some good PMs and have solved the problem.

Still an option should their schedules have an opening. There is only one doc that I will not see and that is the one I was initially scheduled with. Usually not a problem but this time it is.

Are you based ? If so, then the company supposedly made an appointment for you with the CX Aviation Team. Did you cancel or amend this appointment ? Part A is very specific and you seem to be wanting to have your cake and eat it !!!

You've missed the point. He is there one day in February. It used to be we were there several times a month. I'm not there at all in February just as an example. The company has scheduled him with the one doctor he will not see, and he obviously has a reason for this. If you've ever been based you know that when the roster comes out with your appointment, and you wish to change it, most of the slots are already full. If you have several trips to HKG and say four days there it might be possible. He has one. In recent years its become very difficult to move the company booked appointment. The individual in question is not on the 747, but I can tell you that on the 747 they pretty much only bring me there now for RT/PC, ABB, and Medical. You seem well informed as to the requirements of Ops A but you've got no awareness of how hard it is to actually change a booking as a based pilot.

Yes I am and yes they made an appointment. Part A is specific that they will make the appointment but there is no requirement that I see the doctor they made the appointment with. This has nothing to do with cake and everything to do with my right not to see a doctor that I am not comfortable seeing.

8driver is very correct. I arrive at night and leave the following night with the appointment during my less than 30 hour layover the day before the biggest holiday in the country. The other CX doctors do not have any availability as of now. I really do not know what is so hard to understand about what I am asking but don't worry, I will fulfill my legal requirement to renew my medical. You can rest easy.

No i think YOU have missed the point. The company has fulfilled it's obligation and made a booking. So it is with a doctor he would prefer not to use but has he told the company that previously ?I doubt that very much. Then you say he is only in HKG on day in Feb, so. What has that got to do with it. Lets face it he has had 12 months to arrange his medical either with the CX aviation department or elsewhere in HKG or his home base or any number of places he flies to or visits. You will argue that he only got his roster for Feb in mid Jan but come on he knew his renewal was due and could have made earlier plans. It's his licence after all and bleeting on Pprune "poor old me I might have to fly to HKG to renew my medical because I have sat on my arse for 12 months and ignored the issues" doesn't read well at all. Suck it up big lad and take pwnership of your licence.

This is all very entertaining!
Can you just stop for a moment though, as I need to go out and grab some more beer and popcorn.

I really hope you're not on my fleet and I don't have to fly with you, but if I do, can you just clam up and let me read the paper?

Nope, no excuses Adam. There is no excuse for not being prepared. Beer and popcorn are prerequisites for reading this forum, and you should have had a sufficient supply on hand. Its gonna be a 1, with a repeat.

Try Steven Ho. Got my FAA class 1 done this wed. A little bit under 3k hongkies with ECG. He said Cocks is his mentor and now he has his own place in Central. You can look him up on the AMEs list under the international section. He does "HKCAD, NZCAA, CASA, FAA, UK/EASA" according to the confirmation email I got.
