I can see the stupid ones among us will vote Yes. Which makes me wonder is it management that's stupid or is it that they are geniuses, because they know how to Target the imbeciles among us? Time will tell who is stupid, and who is not.

The Company has effectively bypassed the HKG union. Absent some draconian action (which isn't going to happen) the conditions will be whatever the company wishes to impose and believes it can get away with.

People bee hatch about the 'leadership' -- which may well be a factor -- but the situation directly reflects the will and demeanor of the membership at large.

Another thing occurs to me. The company says they will “announce “ 13th month during the week of the 10th. Knowing full well that the entire multi thousand staff are anxiously waiting for that news. More disgustingly, we all know they have already made the decision, but are happy to cause another week of misery and uncertainty for their staff. Contemptible. And btw, if the Captains are screwed over again, you can well expect a vicious reaction if my informal survey is any indication.

Mole ,

I'm saddened to say this but the reaction will be the same as last year, perhaps with a few more Capt's taking some form of action but it won't be painful enough for the company accountants to be worried about it .
Unless there will be a massive backlash with each Capt arranging his own personal retaliation that is sufficiently large to make them sit up and cause them pain nothing will change. Until you hit the bottom line , any accountant will simply say. Look we saved x dollars from salaries and so far its only cost y dollars to achieve so we are well ahead.
People will say what can we do ? There is plenty you can do , your hands are on the throttles , those big shiny jets are thirsty , make your own individual plan be creative
For me my starting point 1 salary less = 30 days off and go from there . If you are faced with a bigger foe use guerrilla tactics (Definition : Guerrilla a member of a small independent group taking part in irregular fighting, typically against a larger better organised foe )

Your bottom line is my bottom line. And you are correct, will ensure that the annual incremental cost to the company WILL be many X the loss i suffer. Not even a shadow of a doubt. Never mind the message it would send to the hundreds of younger crew who are wavering on the decision to leave or stay.

Please read Yanis Varoufakis' book "Adults in the Room"
The good Professor details his time as finance minister in Greece. Interviewed in TV about the measures the government was considering to regulate and control the financial system he was repeatedly savaged by the 'journalist'.
During the live to air broadcast an ad break allowed the journalist to apologise. It was explained that the only advertising revenue received by the TV station was from the banks.

The SCMP is in a slow downwards spiral. A convenient 'advertising spend' by Rupert and John and along comes the puff piece,
Qantas do it all the time in the antipodes, dying print media desperate to sell advertising, running corporate rubbish from Coward Street, quite often with grammar and syntax error contained therein!

Of course if that doesn't work, a little upgrade shoved the way of the journalist and their family and a Chairman's lounge membership (like most all politicians and as QF do not disclose who is in it, bribery is nicely contained) and the 'journalists' forget all about investigation and presentation of collected fact.

Just do what most others do and don't read the crap!

Rated de,

Right idea, wrong conclusion.

You tell me how many times Alibaba is mentioned in the SCMP and I'll tell you that the SCMP is owned by Alibaba. Alibaba is about 50 times the size of Cathay, so I doubt Cathay has much influence.

Remind me which political party Jack Ma belongs to? Remind me who owns 29.9% of Cathay?

I think it’s more than print media. It’s also TV and internet “journalism” too. With very few exceptions, they just regurgitate what the lifelong government bureaucrats and big business cronies feed them. People dumb enough to believe these outlets get what they deserve, which is a society by, of, and for the ruling elites. This is why they hate and seek to destroy Trump and other “nationalists”. They dare to defy the corrupt system and tell distasteful and ugly truths.

14 Jet Airways flights cancelled as pilots call in ‘sick’: Report

Jet Airways said in a statement the flights were cancelled due to an ‘unforeseen operational circumstance, and not pilot non-cooperation’

Jet Airways management is in regular dialogue with the pilots and other teams to discuss and resolve ongoing issues including disbursement of salaries. Photo: MintMumbai: Jet Airways cancelled at least 14 flights to various destinations on Sunday after some of its pilots reported “sick” over non-payment of their dues, sources said.

The loss-making private carrier has been defaulting on salary disbursement to its senior management along with pilots and engineer since August due to severe cash crunch.

The airline has partially paid to these staff for September while the full salaries of October and November also remain unpaid.

“At least 14 flights have been cancelled so far due to some pilots reporting sick. They are protesting against non-payment of salary, dues and the indifferent attitude of the National Aviator’s Guild (NAG) in taking up the issue with the management,” the source said.

The NAG is a domestic pilots body of Jet Airways, representing over 1,000 pilots.

The airline said in a statement the flights were cancelled due to an “unforeseen operational circumstance, and not pilot non-cooperation”. It, however, did not give the number of flights cancelled.

Another source said, “Some of the pilots have also written to airline chairman Naresh Goyal, stating that they are unwilling to work in this manner.”Jet Airways said the passengers of the affected flights were duly informed about their flight status via SMS alerts and they have been re-accommodated or compensated.

“The company continues to enjoy the complete support and cooperation of all its employees, including pilots and engineers, individually and through their respective representative bodies, who have extended their solidarity and full support to the airline,” the airline stated. The management is in regular dialogue with the pilots and other teams to discuss and resolve ongoing issues including disbursement of salaries, it added.

“As stated earlier, Jet Airways is committed to meet its obligations and has been progressively addressing this issue with the employees,” it said.
