English Proficiency Exam in HK

Hi,

Really looking for some help here. As a native English speaker, I was somewhat surprised to fail my EP exam recently in the Philippines. Without going into detail, I will not subject myself to another such "examination" there.

Is it possible to sit my ICAO EP exam here in HK?

Any input will be greatly appreciated as I'm effectively grounded at this point.

I suggest you contact Michael at aviationenglish.com. He can do a quick assessment plus direct you to an exam provider. The company are involved in training CX departments as well as pilot applicants.

Subsonicsubic the ICAO English rating is only valid for each authority, in HK you need to be sponsored by an Airline with a HK AOC and the test results are only valid for a HK license there is no universal English ratings like the medical it’s only validity is for the national license

Do you have ICAO EP in your current license? I have mine in the HK license. To get it into my German License, I needed to go to the HKCAD. They provided me with a letter, that was sent to the German LBA. My ICAO EP was than put into my German license without hassle. Funny thing though was that the lady at the LBA initially said I have to do the test in Germany as the test in Germany would be harder then in HK. I asked her, how that could be, as it's ICAO standard so it should be the same with all ICAO countries. It was just another proof of how authorities have no clue. On the internet I then red up, that if I have it in any ICAO license, I can transfer it to my German license....

You obviously have not heard PRC pilots or ATCs speak "English". They have their ICAO4s too. Passing the test is a matter of memorizing a scripted list of questions and answers. So no, not all ICAO 4 are the same.

Are you referring to me? I’m flying in China for nearly 10 years and I am well aware of Chinese ICAO standards.... but I’m pretty sure they have ICAO 6 not 4!

I think this is really undermining Chinese Pilots. So are you saying Caucasian Pilots speak the best English out there? Watch wat u say mate..u gonna trickle some unhappy souls here. Your reply was not called for..esp in this forum

Mike's company made no revenue from my assessment today, but Mike went above and beyond to help me get back in the air.
