Living on the island

Hello all,

I have just arrived in HK to work at KA.

I am looking at living on the island, say Sai ying pun through to tin hau, but more than likely the western side. Discovery bay dosnt do it for me and the mainland I imagine will be where I end up in due course, but at this time I'd like to experience the island.

Could anyone advise as to how folks travel to the airport for early reports when the train lines are not operating? What are the commute times? And any advice on where to live on the island to make that early morning commute more manageable? Is there a shuttle service, Iv heard this mentioned but not sure of details?

My last commute was up to 1hr10mins at my previous.

Thanks again.

I'm in Sheung Wan myself. There are likely buses near Sai Ying Pun that will get you to CX City or Airport to get the HAS shuttle to KA House. I take the E11 myself for early mornings. The first Airport Express is at 0550, which gets you to the terminal at 0615, in time to catch the shuttle for a 0630 report.

I am also in the area.

I think you'll find most of your colleagues drive.

Cars are cheap.

Oh. My bad. Must just be me and my cynical ways. I just never thought we would see the day when a Pilot joins a company, AND THEN asks how to get to work using a rumor network.

Thanks very much for MOST of the replies. All of constructive replies are great, I am looking at the western side. It would seem you can get the N11 but takes that long you might as well wait for the MTR to open! Taxi would be the bet I guess for those times you can't get there on the train so thanks for the tip on discount taxis. Is there an express bus do you know? Thanks

The Airport Express is always available for earlies. Just ask Crew Control to pass on to the Skipper you'll report to the aircraft directly and if he seems important flatter him with a Pacific coffee.

Strategically, just let Eleanor know over at CX rostering your predicament, they'll help out by rostering you to avoid the few very early starts that conflict with the AEL.

If you are flying with me, get a taxi to KA House, because we have a strict seniority system here at KA and I'm already reporting straight to the aircraft.

Welcome to Dragonair !

OMG , who are KA recruiting now ? Failure to recognise sarcasm ?!

You really should do your homework prior to joining . Its pretty basic really : Car, Bus or train . As in any major city.
Im betting you are from
Europe, 20 something who will come down to earth with a huge thump after your first PC.
Bang bang .
But by all means do get 500 hours n clear off with your EASA rating. Thats all.
