“The company suffered a huge loss from fuel-hedging. But the management should not require staff to bear responsibility for the misinvestments,”

Bam...

You go girls!

Nice job girls. Some intestinal fortitude always required to take on CX management.
Also serves to keep the fuel hedging disaster firmly in the spotlight as the real reason we have gotten ourselves in a a small pickle.
Now, I am just counting down the minutes until the inevitable " yeah, but the girls have got a lot less to lose than us" post. Can't be far away.

Absolutely agree 100% Curtain, its pathetic we have to wait for the FAU to speak up but now is a perfect time for the AOA to pile on the pressure and back them

The HKAOA president is a Cathay apologist who refuses to debate the company's finance announcements as the muppets apparently know best.

Fingers crossed the other AOA presidents fill the vacuum and argue for full 13th month.
Oh, wait......

Age is not a factor in staff recruitment, training and promotion.”

Barf.
"Cathay is an Equal Opportunity Employer"
Barf.

What a load... If that was the case then CX would have THE EXACT same retirement age right across the world. Period. Stop with the condescending crap about "we comply with all HK laws" and "regulations" in other parts of the world blah blah blah.
What they should say is "we comply until we get sued for not complying"
There are still 3 or 4 different "retirement" ages right in Hong Kong and still people here suffering from the "here, sign this new contract for lesser conditions or pi** off at 55" so where exactly is this Caring "Equal Opportunity" company..?
Whoever said that (CX spokesperson) is is vying with Hillary for the title of BS queen of the world.

No worries though, Director People will be right on top of this situation as his degree in Geology (Cambridge of course) and work experience in the Gurkha Rifles will finally pay off.

In the mean time the pilots vote to reduce pay by 5% to fund the FAU demands. A spokesman for the AOA stated, "that's what we do, we know we are a organ located in the lower abdominal area. So we act the part."
Pilots, we think we are so smart. Yet outside the cockpit we act so dump.

now, now, it's time for us to embrace the new communication revolution. as you can see on the forum, our new Director Comms has embraced the concept of Twitter by posting in what I can only assume is "Twitter grammar", i.e. not using capital letters when starting a new sentence. what i find odd, though, is his use of capitals for GC and Annual Discretionary Payment (i assume he means Annual Discretionary Bonus) - if the thumb can go to the correct key on the phone keyboard to get G, C, A, D and P, why not let it (or make it!) go there to start a new sentence?

when people start sentences in lower case it just seems lazy and makes the content hard to read. then again, what would i know, i don't do Twitter.

Arthur, last time when the girls had that massive action, few local boys were trying to table a motion so the AOA will issue a letter of support for FAU... and guess what happened? nothing was ever heard from the GC and furthermore, privately on personal's fb, one of the local boys on that motion had couple of the GC telling him that motion is a blatant attack of the union and that's not how things work blah blah blah

Excellent open letter to management in the SCMP last week though.....not.
Chinglish, google translate and just plain old fashioned ill informed bollocks at it's best. If you're going to take out a half page advert in a broadsheet (which I'm guessing wouldn't have left much change out of $100,000 hkd) trying to garner English speaking public support, for the love of God have it proof read first, preferably by someone other than a Shau Kei Wan tram driver. In fact I'm giving the tram drivers' a bad name. Their written English wouldn't have been that bad.

I think we should write a letter like this.

Dear Anna
On behalf of all flight crew we would like to point out we are a little bit mystified in the company's decision not to pay 13th month.
We are looking forward to continuing discussions with regards to HKPA .

Wishing you a very merry Christmas

HKAOA chairman

DS
