The hour requirements really are quite low. The requirements used to be higher for DESO. What could be the reason for that?

Official requirements had always been 1000h.

But candidates rarely were considered with less than 3000 or 4000h.

Just read AT's latest newsletter. Makes me want to vomit. She is congratulating the USAOA for reaching approving an agreement that was negotiated in 'good faith'. Plaudits all around... Question: Why are the pilots in HK any less deserving of the protections and benefits that the USAOA pilots have just been offered by the company? Answer: they aren't any less deserving. The problem is that the management thinks that morals and fairness have no place in the debate. AT, you will never have peace in HK the way you are proceeding. This management have NO shame. None at all. To all of the HK based pilots, keep applying CC and the TB in it's entirety. To those based pilots who are being offered training slots, please, don't undermine those of us in HK who are sacrificing to achieve a fair deal. We all work for the same employer, and all have a collective interest in what happens. If they can destroy the working conditions and benefits here in HK, there is no real lasting peace for any group. If they can cut costs to the bone in HK, eventually what benefit is there to having bases? Ultimately, we ALL need to stay united and help support the struggle that each and every group is undertaking. You have a nice deal in the US, please help us here in HK achieve the same. Thank you. (and that applies to the Aussies and NZ'ers and Europeans as well).

Because they are desperate to try and fix a problem they created. They could have solved all these issues a long time ago but CX management would rather create new problems and throw money at them rather than solving existing issues.
A very good post by Mngmt mole

I think there will be around 100 in the next 12 months, still don't quite know how the training system will cope. You will be worked hard on the 330 and 747

I thought there were only 30 eligible SOs to take up the DEFO offer and they would take up to 100 externals over the next 12 months

No you will not be worked hard on the -400. Lot of time away sadly however the fleet is heavily overborne and you're rosters for avg 55 hrs pcm.

Yeah, the fleet just took a sudden shrink recently when they were caught out when some leases weren't renewed by the owner.

"I assume we're renewing those leases with you"
"Actually no. At the end of lease, which is tomorrow, please deliver aircraft to <[a freight operation based in the EU]>."

I believe it is all the production freighters have gone and rumour has it the BCF will be going by the end of the year. That combined with the three remaining paseenger aircraft leaving in October, it will be down 7 aircraft against the gain of one which is the last -8 F.

Does anyone know what the base salary, housing allowance and days off etc are for these FO positions? I find it strange they don't disclose this kind of information.

Cheers

If there is to be solidarity among the trade unions, might I suggest we retire the phrase "it's a Hong Kong airline?"

Cheers Slam Click.

I've done my research and your info is consistent. The big shiny jet seems hardly worth the living conditions that come with it.

Will the DEFO get the pay (especially housing) etc the same as what SOs will get when they are promoted to FOs? Or will these DEFO get the housing allowance what the DEFOs got which entered before 2008?

"30 or so eligible SO's"

I don't get it - where's the noise?

KA hires DEFO's with possibly less than 100hrs Total time in an aircraft (and possibly NO solo time at all). This is a company 100% owned and managed by Cathay Pacific.

However, CX can only find 30 in all the SO's already employed here many who are local and/or already have a HK ID Cards.

If the qualifications above are good enough for KA, then why not CX ?? They are obviously good enough for all KA management. They are obviously good enough for the CAD. They are obviously good enough for the passengers who pay for the tickets which KA sell under the auspices of Cathay Pacific.
Yet CX can say their not good enough for them ??? What does the Immigration department have to say about this ??
Another different standard ? All those "bypassed" SO's; how does this make YOU feel.

They either waited for years to join the C-scale or told CX to stick it and moved the Middle East for a quicker WB command.
