Curtain,

If Hong Kong happened to be the Bahamas and the Headland was Shangri-la, you think Russ and his boys would use the 1-1.5hr bolloxs to get rid of the third day? Would they duck.

In fact they would find a way to make it 4 days. Not to mention JS1-6 for wife, kids and Mavis from across the road. Scrap that, can't use JS anymore our of London.

"This is not something we could legitimately fight"
I couldn't believe a Chairman of any union would say that. And then I read it.

Sell outs

Other unions are going to be utterly amazed at how well we have done. Delay all your members career progression, then help the company work us harder with less rest. We are a crack team negotiating a great deal here.

I think it was also the same chairman, when they closed his AMS base, who found and pushed a way to re-interpret the basings policy to get new positions in LON created and made available to AMS crew, while nobody else got to bid in seniority for those new positions. Right? If that was the new normal, then what happened when they closed the CDG base? Rhetorical question......
Rhetorical or not CR, you can just leave a post like that hanging allowing others to think the positions should have been open to bid. Read the policy again and you can see clearly how many holes are in it to allow such a process to occur. Holes big enough the Company could virtually do what they want...and they did!

"In the event of a reduction in overall crew levels in, or closure of, a Home Base, suitable Officers who are already Based or have been awarded a vacancy in that HB will be given the opportunity, in seniority order, to relocate to another Home Base within the Base Area, subject to a position being available regardless of aircraft type, or to another Base Area, or to Hong Kong. Relocation will be at the Company's expense to the levels provided for in the Officer's Conditions of Service."

There's been some brilliant union groups in years gone by, but I think this one is next level kind of stuff.

Not panicking, just think we have taken a very wrong turn and it's going to end badly. No one has the balls to stop this train wreck either, we're marching towards the cliff. Yehaaa!

Unfortunately we've hired a bunch of people in the past 14 years who are completely clueless as to the company or actually any large public company and what happens when your actions start costing them money.

Anyone who thinks they wouldn't do mass sackings again needs their head examined. Seriously. When the 330s were grounded the company had no problem finding a bunch of aircraft to wet lease short term. When SARS hit the company showed it had a bunch of cash to ride out the storm. You're just a pilot, you're not irreplaceable.

If and when the board gets tired of the pilots something will happen. Institutional investors with billions in the company are calling for new contracts. When I see comments on here like "victory is ours" or "we're just doing our contract" I wonder how so many can be so naive.

Looking ahead, I hope there's dialogue.

Sackings are the last thing they will do, that's only going to make their problem worse. Direct entry and farming off some of our flying is what's coming.

Xwindldg,

Maybe direct entry is what's needed as I highly doubt you should be doing any landings, Xwind or otherwise.

I think there will be a big hit to morale, support, resolve, etc.. if something nasty happens after the 31st. The vast majority joined because they like flying planes, want to upgrade and make money. Being in a long industrial war wasn't top of the list. From what I've read there was huge support and brave talk around the 49s time, then it quickly fell away when push came to shove. The reality is that's what's going to happen again if it turns bad after the 31st.

I am already on the fence over whether to stay or go. If there are any negative changes on May 31st, I'll go ahead and get off the fence on the side with greener grass and fresh air, and people that don't cut in front of you in line.

Honestly though, how obtuse can these 'managers' be?

Just take a read of master chus friday telex, total gloom and doom, i have a large hunch that anything on may 31st was entirely pre planned. Take a read, its going to get ugly quick, time to pull the eject handle if you have options elsewhere. They are finislly realizing and the public numbers will reflect their fuel whoopsie.

Perhaps Ivan could donate some of his 3.8 million dollar bonus as a way of recucing costs.

Perhaps a good time to have the pilots "onboard" as the push for efficiency and productivity flows directly through us on nearly all matters operational. We can help CX "navigate the storm", but we need to be treated fairly before we will do that. Well, most of us do anyways, a few love rampant abuse and CoS degradation.

You are misinformed. The Canadian based freighter captains can not bump or displace (if freighter flying would be reduced) any of the Canadian based passenger captains or first officers. This was a big discussion point some years ago within the AOAC. Ask any of the AOAC MEC officials.

I did and it's not clear. There is a case to be argued for both sides so I guess either way it would get ugly which would most likely be discouragement enough for CX not to go down that road.

My point was, it's not an easy option for CX because of the uncertainties of the process for Canada.
