Action against Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd has recently been brought in France by a Public Prosecutor on charges of concealed work, and subcontracting and loan of workforce.
These charges concern the employment of nearly forty pilots (the majority of whom are HKAOA Members) who were permanently employed in France when Cathay Pacific suddenly decided to close its Charles de Gaulle operating base in August 2012. Hearings on these charges have been scheduled in Criminal Court in October 2015 and January 2016.

There will be some attempt to try the "If you prosecute this to its ultimate conclusion we will cancel our Airbus orders" deal. Let's hope they try that. The French are in no mood to be messed around and the French equivalent of BALPA have a couple of courageous members who refused to obediently troop back to HKG and were fired by the Mill Owners.

Cathay Pacific to appear in French court over labour law violation
Unhygienic water and missing bags of money are not the only things bothering Cathay Pacific Airways these days.
Adding to the airline’s latest misery, French prosecutors have pressed charges regarding concealed work, and subcontracting and loan of workforce on the airline.
The case was first reported by The Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association and was later confirmed by the airline.
In a press release issued by The Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association (HKAOA), the trade union that represents pilots and flight engineers employed by the airline said the charges concerned the employment of 40 pilots stationed in France.
When Cathay Pacific closed its Charles de Gaulle operating base in August 2012, it tried to keep the employment condition of the pilots away form French authority.
Hearings on these charges have been scheduled in court in October 2015 and January 2016.
A number of additional claims have also been filed against Cathay Pacific in civil Courts for failing to provide pension contributions that are compulsory under the French system and compensation for the pilot’s forced relocation to Hong Kong.
HKAOA General Secretary Chris Beebe said the association is aware that the managers who made the decision to close the Charles de Gaulle base and rejected earlier attempts to resolve the situation through mediation attempts have left the company.
“Our organisation sincerely hopes that Cathay Pacific’s recently appointed managers will review the case objectively so that a renewed dialogue on the adequate compensation of its members can be initiated and further procedures avoided,” he said.
He added the association will provide legal assistance to the affected pilots.
A spokesperson from Cathay Pacific acknowledge the legal actions that are going on in France and refused to comment further because legal procedures are under way.

I doubt Cathay calling blackmail for an airbus order would work, the french government didnt sell a carrier to Russia due the embargo.....so why would they care about one company?

As I won't get a profit share anyway I hope the company gets a good solid buggering from the Frogs. Legal punishment is the only way these clowns will ever learn to run things properly.
Whilst they are spending $$$$ on legal fees you have to wonder why they are spending large in NZ on an appeal. Why not just comply with the laws of the land? It is what non-criminal businesses do. Perhaps the days of being drug dealers aren't long enough behind them.

So when they're done with France it'll be USA next?
What's the difference in the way they set up Paris when compared to USA bases? If they think the french whooping stings wait for the federal stomping!

No updates. People will have been paid off to shut up and say nothing. The 2 pilots who refused ( bravely) to be bullied into a rapid return to HKG have certainly been very quiet. What happened to the Lady FO who's husband was very ill but was still made to return to HKG ( actually, not "return" - don't think she was ever based there).

Speaking of Time to Win. My favourite observation in regards to that nauseating slogan was seeing boxes of the Cathay News (or whatever it's called now) newsletters with the 'Time to Win' slogan on display on the Street, the very same week they were laying of hundreds of staff (and their families, effectively). Thought that was a particularly nice touch. Insensitive to the last.

Tom Owen was appointed as Director People in August 2015 and is responsible for all people strategy and human resource issues at the airline. His previous position was Senior Vice President, Americas. Mr Owen joined Cathay Pacific in 1995 from the British Army.
He has since held a number of senior leadership positions within the airline in both Hong Kong and overseas, and from 2011 to 2012 worked as Chief Operating Officer Logistics for the Swire group’s Steamships Trading Company Ltd in Papua New Guinea.
