Complete, absolute no brainer

You only need to compare the salary trajectories of CX and BA and project forward the CX management (I use that phrase advisedly) attitude toward benefits like housing etc...

Its a complete and utter no brainer.

Quadspeed. You are full of ****. I happen to be one of the individuals who knocked back BA to come here. Why ? Because in those days it was considered a highly sought after job. In much the same way as sitting in the front end of a CX jumbo was considered something of an achievement by the travelling public.
Do I regret not joining them now? Every f@cking day. I'd be retired, on a pension I can't even get close to now having had a lifetime of decent routes, decent equipment, and very few industrial woes. However that is a post for another day. And what is done is done.
As a Brit/ European based guy under 40 don't even think twice. Crack on with it.

Take it from an old hand who is nearing the end of his career with Cathay, if you have the qualifications required and are young -(I leave the interpretation of young for others to decide) and have a desire to remain in the U.K. or Europe then do not hesitate. Apply.

Great job in many ways due to bid line......****ty in many ways due to bid line too......at the moment, due to the retirement demographic, you will be an FO and junior for an awful long time...not bad for variety if you get on the triple although you won't see too many weekends off. If you get the mini bus, it doesn't matter too much..although forced draught and a Hitler youth culture has been making it miserable for many who went over from BMI. Either way, your 20 days off a month at Cathay will turn in to about 10 at the most, and a long haul command at the moment is running at over 20 years....oh and no final Salary pension either...the grass isn't always greener

If you worked as a BA F/O right now, would you leave and join CX?

What is very telling is this , a number of years ago this topic would never have made it on this forum . Today our conditions and job have deteriorated to such an extent that we are all telling the youngsters to go . Not because we want rid of them but because we can see no future for them here Sad but true

It depends what fleet you join on.

If you join on long haul the lifestyle is like any other airline which flies long haul. If you join short haul, it's like joining easyJet.

Not sure how many would leave Cathay to join BA. Insignificant numbers I would say.

I don't work for CX or BA - I work for Vietnam Airlines - but in recent weeks I've had PM's from more than one BA short haul captain who's seriously considering coming to work for us

Apparently they are sick of the relentless downward pressure on T&C's, terrible roster and working environment in BA

We live in strange times indeed ...

Agree with Johnpilot. Some will go, and accept short-haul out of desperation to get home. Long Haul I'm sure will be be attractive to more, but the numbers leaving will be tiny. Considering the number of applicants they will get, I suspect only a tiny fraction of qualified Boeing wide-body applicants would even get a shot at an interview.

Remember you can apply for a LH position at BA, succeed at assessment and end up in shorthaul. You join an airline, not a fleet. You then become 'frozen' for 5 years and can't 'bid off' the fleet unless the company requires you to. I have two mates in SH who say it's a shambles. IAG are giving it a constant prod due to its poor profit making abilities (the shorthaul part of the business). You have cases of SH skippers bidding for right seat LH positions as the writing appears to be on the wall. Do some serious research on how IAG dismantled Iberia shorthaul, replacing it with the 'slick' Iberia Express/Vueling Lo Co model. That's the fear within BA SH.

The LH recruitment is for the 744. If you end up on it you'll be very junior, subject to blind line for a lengthy period and will remain junior as the fleet is on the out. Time to command is 20 odd years for LH. The 777 is covered by internal bids and is unlikely require any DEP hire. Maybe its not the be all and end all it once was however for those wanting the UK, it's probably the best you'll get. Wouldn't say it's a 'no brainer' but I have no experience of the situation within CX.
