I think as previously stated this need to be given to the guys to do with as they wish although it is the same value as a nice ticket and should be mentioned as such. If it were me receiving it, although I would be hugely grateful of such a kind gesture, I would find it hard whilst sitting in 1st to not ponder what I wish I could have done with the money instead.

True, let them choose which airline to fly with. I reckon after this incident they will choose another airline with better service and no drama.

If any of you are skeptical of the Toronto Star story, or doubt that he situation on board has been dramatic, see here:

Feeling a bit sheepish about my original $10 donation. Just made another more substantial one. Thanks for others who led the way in generosity. Feel better that I climbed to a higher step!! Way to go everyone. Please, call/text/email everyone you know and get them to donate. Hold them accountable to get back to you with a confirmation.

We are working on a PR spin as we speak.

We will be contacting the Passengers involved and sending two Business Class confirmed tickets to each passenger and their Spouse for travel from Toronto to Hong Kong and return.

The raised money will be a waste, as the passengers will have free tickets sent to them. You can save your money and donate it towards a fund for the individuals that we will be terminating in the near future.

We are in the process of compiling a list of names. Some of those names will be collected from the fund supporters and the list of those doing contract compliance.

If the CX pilots believe they will smear the Great Name of The CP Group and worlds more caring airline, you are mistaken. We will spend more money than your measly donation fund to portray our name as the world’s most caring airline.

To use this as bad public relations against us is futile, we are more superior to the likes of some under educated pilots on spinning the PR program. You are out of your league.

We will have the report finished by Monday morning.

You are wasting your money.

The Management.

Humanity?

I´m a litte bit astonished and curious: Why didn´t you give an immediate upgrade to the both helpful passangers for their trip home, as you have announced on facebook?
Source: https://www.facebook.com/cathaypacif...52717174899297

My personal opinion: I appreciate the private initiated and human action of the pilots, and Idon´t think, it will be wasted money for the both guys. I am sorry to hear, that the supporter of a human action are threatened now.

Hopefully you remember the positive PR effect of the story with the pilot of a delayed US aircraft: He bought pizza for all of his hungry passengers (and payed with his private credit card). This story run all over the world, and the airline including their pilots got a lot of sympathy...

Our friend Mr Management is an idiot imposter as we all know but he has a point here and speaks with the mind of the Management (so far) but is not one of them - perhaps he's trying to help.
Be careful that we don't get outmanoeuvred by a 'last minute change of strategy' that CX could pull. They have an enormous war chest and will throw money at it that we can't afford. 'Better late than never' - you could say that they have already 'rewarded' these individuals with their pathetic gesture but try explaining that to the SCMP. We have to beat them to it.
Also, our 'strategy' is completely public on this medium. Refer to my previous post #49.
Not long to go now until the 9th Floor assembles but the PR position of :-
'Cathay Pacific forced into a belated gesture by pilot's fund for heroic passengers' seems to sound OK.
If only 'they' had done the decent thing in the first place. What a ridiculous way to 'manage' anything.
Interesting quote tonight on a UK TV programme related to the Indian Mutiny of 1857 -
"if you continually ride roughshod over everything that people hold dear, one day they will fight back". Say no more...........

We all know 'the mangment's' postings are at best entertainment value at best, but mainly file 13 material only. So moving forward....

Having just read NH's link (3 posts ago) to a Toronto Police site about the incident, it appears an Aussie Dr David Monks, was also involved to quite some degree. As it appears said good Dr also accompanied the patient to a Beijing hospital. Do any of those in the know have any info on whether CX offered or gave any significant gesture of thanks to him, as I doubt a Beijing hospital was his ultimate destination. If there was a decent gesture of material thanks made by CX, I can see how disparate the company ticket offer was to Goomber & Li.

If CX did not, any idea if there's a plan to include him in in the "Thanks from the CX pilots(& contributing public) fund" once it's exceeded its target?

This is, what CX wrote on FB.
We have already offered upgrade vouchers that are valid for a year to the two passengers and their travel companions in addition to other reimbursements soon after the event as a token of our gratitude.

https://www.facebook.com/cathaypacificCA?fref=nf

Upgrade for TWO passengers and their companions. No word about the physician.

Just a suggestion. Why not donate the cash directly to the recipients. They may need that more than two tickets. That way it can help their families as well. Only a suggestion. Thoughts?

Donated ..... great job.

Is some one - or a "representative" going to be in Toronto to film and present these guys with the money? In a world where everyone has a video smartphone, I'd love to see the expression on these guys faces.

I think that is the intention my friend.

From the Goomber-Li Hero Fund | Other - YouCaring.com website:
The current plan is to have a Toronto-based Cathay Pacific Airways Captain present Mr. Li and Mr. Goomber each a check for half the donated amount to do with what they please.
Still a great initiative by NH, that in a really nice way, a group of decent principled people, are able to express their own thanks, in a way the recipients will at least get both a feeling of deep appreciation and a few bucks to boot.

Has anyone started a fund to pay CX for the following

1) Cost of diversion
2) Cost of aircraft out of service
3) Puke and Blood clean up cost
4) Misc hardship costs

Would be nice if an equal opportunity expense system is in place

Wannabe Flyer

If you were actually a pilot and not a "Wannabe" you would know what a stupid statement that is.

Night Watch

I would have expected you to understand the Sarcasm in the post and the underlying Humour that was implied!

I cannot imagine any sane minded individual not to appreciate the effort being made to reward the people involved. Naturally it implies CX is not sane minded!!

Now open a beer kick back your feet and chill!
