CX646 - 09 July 2200Z approx

Can I just say thank you to the chap on the R/T who was providing great entertainment on 120.1 with Calcutta last night.

I thought rule one that we all learned when first flying in that part of the world is that the Indians don't speak to the Bangladeshis and vice versa, as they don't have a landline and that you do your own coordination when getting a new clearance to change level etc.

I think someone summed it up nicely with 'Give it a rest' after he repeatedly demanded to know if the Calcutta controller had coordinated his climb with Dhaka or not and then stated on the R/T that he will be filing an ASR for the lack of coordination. If filing an ASR could cure 43 years of political tension, then the world would be a far better place!

Mmmmmmm, bit weird as every single FO CN I've flown with in that area knows the score and operates accordingly.

Someone must have had a bad day and just got sick of the crap....

Maybe not this one...more and more based crews are doing flights to India (and so they should)...

Yes I was also in the air at that time listening to this embarrassing exchange over the air. Calcuttta has over-riding control of Dhaka"s airspace that is why you have to be listening out on both frequencies as you transit. To threaten the Indian controller with an Aaaaaa..Sss..Arrrrrrrr (best Aussie voice) for doing his job correctly was arrogant and cringing. Even a Yank was trying to tell CX 646 just to let the controller in Dhaka know what you are doing. The crew of CX646 should be briefed before any future flight through that region.

Perhaps if proper training was provided by the company, or the awesome NavTech maps published the procedures, or the correct procedures were published somewhere, rather than relying upon random and unreliable word of mouth, this kind of thing wouldn't happen?

Wait, then 1000 other things would have to be published and trained, too, and the mysterious "conventions" couldn't be held against anyone!

The tried and true Jepp charts had all the info about this part if the world shown in the form of ball flags and notes on the charts.

The Navtech system is rubbish. OK, he should have looked up the AERAD, but this is a cheap and nasty system used by a cheap and nasty airline.

No.. perhaps if the militant Aussie arses had their holes loosened we'd all be better off.

I have some wonderful aussie mates, and they too wonder where this "rule based everything must be correct or I will whinge" attitude comes from.
Almost exclusively from older Ansett era crowd.

Get in the bloody plane, and fly from A to B with the least amount of fuss. FULL STOP.

Sadly they will argue you will the bleeding cows come home...small picture.

Pots calling kettles black

twotigers. I think you and your "wonderful Aussie mates" need wonder no more about where the "rule based everything must be correct or I will whinge " attitude comes from. Some of the most militant unionists "down under" come from the UK and they taught Aussies very well in the art of Union stand over tactics and/or unrealistic demands. Strangely, the term "Whinging Pom" was often heard in Oz, at least until the world became victim to "political correctness" and laws protecting some from vilification were enacted.

When I joined Cathay a decade and a half or so ago, I was worried about all the long sleeved Pom's I'd heard rumours about.

To this day, they English have been gentleman thru and thru.. Yes, perhaps the odd one, but that is true of any nationality.
By and large they aren't the problem.
Whether it be a discussion with local pilots, or expats or as mentioned even Aussies.. there is a singular type that is disliked throughout for their nonsense.

I didn't even have to look at the crew list to know it as a Aussie.
Sadly, it's that apparent.

So whomever you wish to blame, the fact that universally one group stand out as the problem to all others, speaks to the issue.

As an Aussie even I'm embarrassed by some of them - indeed look no further than the worst of them all: The Screaming Skull!
Fortunately he's off wielding his special kind of 'technique' elsewhere rather than in Indian or Chinese airspace (and not for much longer there either thank goodness).

Are they the ones that were sent over on the ships?
