KA rapid command?

There is a rumour that KA is looking for highly experienced pilots to fill the gap just above their cadets that are not yet ready for a command. The rumour is that you may only have to do 18 months to get a shot at promotion.

Can anyone verify if this is true, and if there is any precedent for this?

Thanks

Can't verify it but can guarantee that would be news to the dozens of experienced expat FOs that have been waiting 6 years for a command.
2 chances of that happening arrowhead.....

Good Opportunity

KA will run out of suitable internal applicants for command later this year, they no longer have dozens of experienced FOs airdual. This situation will last for about two years until more ex-cadets meet the hours requirement. KA is being pushed by CX to take more 330s before and as the 350s start arriving. To fly more aeroplanes you need more Captains, in this recent bad wx several flights have been cancelled due lack of crew, this will get worse as the summer continues and needs an urgent fix.
Three possible solutions.
1. Hire experienced FOs with the promise of an early crack at command.
2. Offer secondment to KA to CX captains or FOs. CX then cranks up its command rate to compensate.
3. Offer transfer as FO (rapid command) to current CX freighter captains from HKG or the closed MAN base, due their length of service it would allow them to get back on full B scale expat.
KA has only ever had a few DECs when the freighter was introduced, this option is not being considered.

ex HKA FOs currently attached J*HK are also on the queue, they are holding HK license with A320/330 rating, certainly an advantage plus compare to redundant QF mates.

Scope clause???

KA is being pushed by CX to take more 330s before and as the 350s start arriving.
If KA can't crew them, why send the 330s their way?

How about CX keeps the 330s & takes back some of our routes, such as PEN.

Pass rate is now an industry normal? Yes, previously it was one of those Hong Kong oddities where the success of the course was measured by its failure rate.

One soon to go goose still abides by that philosophy evidently. Thank God for evolution!

Probably, BC, because those excess CX crew/aircraft you must be referring to will be tied up after they replace KA on all their KHH flying.

Guess the thing to keep in mind is that what is happening today in no way reflects what will happen in 2,3 or 5 years time. I know a couple of guys who joined in '07, at the time they joined commands were 3 to 4 years, those guys are just doing commands now.

KA for quick (ish) command if you have plenty of prior experience, then stay or move on. Horrible routes though.

CX to do 3 years as S/O, then get 1000 hours quick as you can as an F/O, and move on. Probably to the sand pit.

HKA for a freebie rating, then clear off.

One thing is for certain - there's no such thing as a flying career in Hong Kong anymore due to the current terms and conditions on offer. The ONLY thing Hong Kong has on offer that many other parts of the world don't is a free type rating...

Thanks. I am currently sitting at 5700 hours, 4000 on CRJ's with 700 command on the crj200. I applied to KA last year but havent heard anything back yet. Do they look at CRJ rated pilots?

[QUOTE]HKA for a freebie rating

not anymore, only rated with hours or non-rated local boys & gals have an opportunity for consideration!

Average KA command candidate is north of 9000 hrs total and 2-3000 on type.

Totally different game than a US CRJ outfit.

well, that would suite me actually.. If i could join in the next 6 months to a year, i would have above 6000 total time, and then 3 years time would hopefully have close to 8500 total for command..

And I do not fly for a US regional.. thank goodness
