Not really related to the thread but you can see the sun rise in the west on certain of our polar flights in summer....

Which also puts paid to certain Nigel's claims that only Concord(e) pilots could see this

Nine-Year Wait

Ironically, the 747-8 (and probably the A380) are the exception.
The 747-8 is in the process of slowing production from 2/month to 1.5/month, so it would be relatively easy to get it back up to 2. Further, 747-400 peak production was 5/month, so there is a lot of room to grow.

Also makes me wonder even more about that Sky Whale - if the 747 and A380 are already 'too big', why would anyone spend tens of billion$ to develop something that much bigger

Rumor

Heard the other day that a CX lease deal for the -8i has been done, but the issue of core icing is apparently being used as leverage by CX to get the payment down which has resulted in the deal being stalled/delayed while it gets hashed out. Also heard that the "flapper door" fix for core icing is a no go for the FAA as it raises the EGT substantially. An electric powered heating solution is now apparently in the works - any comments tdracer?
Yes this latest lease news is a total rumor but they just keep coming up and after all, this is a rumor network!

We're still proceeding with the logic to cycle the VBV doors - yes it raises EGT substantially but we've got lots of margin until you get up real close to max con/max climb, where the VBV logic is turned off. Flight testing of the final FADEC logic has already occurred for the -1B on the 787, planned for late this month for the -2B for the 747. A better question is, does cycling the VBV doors really solve the problem? More testing is required to validate that part .
There is a big meeting later today with the FAA to discuss the plans for lifting the AFM ICI limitation after the software is available

I flew with RH recently.

He said about 100 747 F/O's will be converted directly on the A350, since long-haul experienced and "senior" fleet...

-8I's are definitely on the way then, as only CX would move crew off an expanding fleet

I think he is fishing for upset bus guys :-) Long haul experience? Does he mean not very current and good at sleeping in a cupboard?
