I'm with jerky, anyone who expects Jokestar to pay 145 " plus " a month is going to be disappointed.
Also, extra 6k a month for a TIRE over an LTC ? Sounds like BS to me.
The 120k for a line capt touted in another (magical disappearing thread) would likely be closer to reality.
Good luck to those about to join, hopefully it goes slightly better than jetstar pacific....

Not sure why people are complaining about the salaries. According to Cathay's web site they pay...
First Officers in their first year can expect to earn around HKD85,000 per month and Captains between HKD130,000 and HKD200,000 per month.
Jetstar are offering $145-168k. That's on par with Cathay, the higher pay rates for captains will be for other aircraft types.

As for the idea that biz-jets get paid more around here - please enlighten me. How much more?

I have no idea how their business model will operate, but if they have any sense they won't do it like they do in Oz. It's obvious that this part of the world is completely different from down under. Why are you people so cynical. I know that it's an Australian company, but (believe it or not) there are some savvy Australians around.

They are entering the lion's den, but I say good luck to 'em. It would be nice to see the current monopoly having to work for its money.

I'm just waiting to hear the F/O rate. If they're getting 18 A320s by 2015, along with the usual low cost model of flying your arse off, it could be a quick route to command.

You are correct- they just don't work for Jetstar (under any of its guises).

Monopoly? Your being very loose with words there. Off the top of my head, airlines operating Hong Kong to/from China in competition with Swire Group Airlines are: Hong Kong Airlines, Hong Kong Express, China Eastern, China Southern, China Southwest, Air China, Shanghai Airlines, Shenzen Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Spring Airlines, Spring Airlines, Xiamen Airlines. Then there are all the cargo companies, but I think you get the point by now...

Erm, we've established that Jokestar won't be paying 160k for a DEC.

However, on top of the 130-200k CX skippers pay is schooling, which for just 2 of kids, CX will spend over 200k a year, and 15.5% retirement contribution, stability, medical coverage etc... And you'll see how far behind Jokestar are.

My guess is about the 100-115k mark. Perhaps some incentives thrown in.

Etops, you forgot to mention housing, a " mere " 70k ish a month, which as I said earlier will put a Pornstar skipper behind a CX/KA (B) effo ( before adding in all the extras )
But, as usual, all the people that have lived/worked in HK for years are full of 5hit, the newbie Jetstarsintheireyes will know better, and within 12 months they'll all be on here whinging about it
