Paris Base Closed

Rumours hitting the street that Paris has been closed. Letters in mailboxes apparently. I don't know any further details yet.

That is because based guys cost less, it is much cheaper to keep guys on a base than to have them in HKG. It saves the company money you see. That is why all Paris based officers will come to ... HKG.

To all new recruits, please come to Cathay, we have bases! Trust me, the other bases will have vacancies very soon! I heard a rumor that we are gonna hire direct entry pilots on bases! Miami is gone open this year, swear to god.

They will be using the AMS model where the base was closed and nobody batted an eyelid at having to move to London with a huge pay cut or disrupt your entire family and move ( quickly) to The other side of the world.
CX has tried to do basings on the cheap and it's turning into a nightmare (shame) for them. What will happen to the people based in Paris?? They will presumably have 2 months to move to the other side of the world. Quite reasonable don't you think. After all, we're all part of the Cathay 'family'.

If they touch FRA, it will be Emirates for me. Might avoid the rush and start the process now.

CX eventually wants everyone in HK on local conditions. Thats the long term plan. If you think anything else you are delusional.

Correct. They can't do it all at once, so they will nibble away over the years at basings and HKG housing, until one day, probably closer than we think, it will be as you say.

Why would MAN be next? Isn't MAN CxUK? they are partly under UK law right? Paying UK taxes? Was PAR or AMS under any Dutch/French Cx company?

At least they will never close Canadian bases , we Canadians are too willing to do anything for the company to stop them from closing the base, he'll we will even go direct to CH and suggest better patterns for us to get more , don't mind you HK based guys , whatever works for us is best !

Redundancy notice by email, what does that remind you of?

Should the company give at least three months notice?

Assistance with relocation to HKG does this include schools and sufficient time to find suitable accom?

No I thought not, DL will have a busy next week. Deserves all he will get from both directions there may be security posted on the third floor on Monday.

Hmm, heard there are 39 affected - anybody like to coin a handy little handle ending in "ers" that describes this little group?

Grrr

are you serious or just playing the fool?

QuadSpeed, I am Extremely serious. CxUk guys get for instance paternity leave or their partners(not wives) also get ticket benefits, all their salary is paid in UK banks ,etc etc. these were all conditions the company adhered to when they went onshore in the UK. ooh and not to forget their apparent deals with the HMRC.

So my question stands, why would they close a British base if that seems to be the only country where they seem to have their onshoring arranged. It's a simple question guys, just want to know, no need for any strange comments . From what I knew the PAR and AMS bases were both under VETA right?

And can someone that has seen this letter confirm that it is a fact that these officers must head out to HKG instead of another position in the base AREA?(like the AMS guys)

Will be interesting to see how many freighter captains will resign rather than come to HKG.
