LASIK in HK

Hi all,

Looking into getting LASIK done in HK, any recommendations? also what is the minimum recovery time from CAD and CX before you can go back online? unpaid leave throughout the recovery period?

Thanks

SCREW

You asked about H.K. but do check out Phuket Bangkok international hospital. Friends had it done , was very happy and at a fraction of the price.

It's my understanding that LASIK is not allowed for pilots by the HK CAD. Maybe things have changed, or maybe I'm confusing it with radial keratotomy.

Radial Keratotomy? I think perhaps thats being confused with Frontal Lobotomy?
I think I know a couple of CX pilots who've had that done and the CAD hasn't grounded them yet.

Dragons Doc told me a year or so ago that laser eye surgery is fine with the CAD, as long as you're fine with doing a full opthalmology exam every year.
As for getting it done in Thailand I would be extremely careful, having someone screw up your eyes is a bit different to getting a bad boob job.

Pilots have more options on where(country) they want to do it.

If anyone knows for certain the CAD's stance I'd be interested to know - please pm me if you don't want to put it here. I talked to a senior CX doc about it 6 years ago and the rules then were prohibitive. i.e. 6 months off flying and one eye at a time or something like that

I'm not sure how pay would be affected, but I would have the procedure done when I'm on SL leave for my back problem.

cumguzzler,Whilst you get your back fixed, get them to have a look at your warped brain, if they can find it, and get them to change your log in name. '' cumguzzler'' is not real cool. D1k head.

Loopde, I would not go getting something like eye surgery based on something you read on pprune. The only way to be sure is to contact the CAD and then the only risk is the muppet you talk to may have no real idea, like most of them there.
One thing for sure tho, knowing the HKCAD, it's not going to be straight forward or simple.

hkf - Thanks for the fatherly advice.

AGNES - Thanks for the link.

Beta - Would I have to make a booking or can I just pitch up and join a queue?
