FTL's just wait

Wait until the next FTLs come into effect. With the 12-time zone restriction lifted, they will be able to add additional flying to a duty cycle once based pilots are in Hong Kong. One 22-day pattern with 84 credits!

Then bases will open in JFK and ORD. Somebody needs to fly that 777F to DEL.

Joejet is right. Assuming new FTLs and if the company can get the immigration and taxation issues sorted, the bases are really only limited by the size of the Headland Hotel. Why wouldn't they do this? Serious question.

Aviation Medicine - Radiation

What has changed that makes a 'career flying the polar route' a no no from a medical hazard perspective?

We aircrew are our own worst enemies - what is totally unacceptable if one is HK based is perfectly ok if one can be based overseas! The company loves this twisted logic and self interest.

So if radiation is an issue my logic tells me that there will be no basings that result in a career of polar flying. More especially so when the basees will be resident in the most litigation friendly jurisdiction on the planet. If radiation is an issue then full marks to our AVMED team for standing their ground.

Now everyone can carry on dreaming.

Are you forgetting YYZ? Will they be closing that base? Are they restricting HKG crew to one polar return per month?

Even if they do limit crew to one polar trip per month, the base could still function assuming the crew are willing to do one long trip each month. It would not be for me, but some people are desperate to get out of HKG.
