HK Cad Class 1 Medical

Hi,

Ive tried to find info re the class 1 medical but cant seem to find what the requirements are.

I hold a UK CAA Class 1, is the HK C1 much more stringent?

I had to do the running round the building bit for the lung function test so not sure if I would pass the HK?

Any advice greatly appriciated

You don't need the run around lung test but they will test you for HIV.

god, I hope it's not as difficult as the Chinese first class, I'm thinking of applying to HK Airways. I flew in China for two years and it was hell.

Man up man! A treadmill EKG, a resting EKG, two ultrasounds, four vials of blood, exhaustive eye and hearing tests, and that nifty 26 probe thing they place on your head whilst they flash a strobe at you making you weak? If that's not enough, a full body CT scan is waiting if you ring any bells.

Don't forget the rather tight tolerances for all the above, and if you like beer, they remind you that you are obese in their eyes.

That's pale compared to the rigamarole CAAC gives you after for the license.

Now how about that ATP written? A true work of art. Written in Chinese by someone who doesn't fly, then translated by someone who has no idea about aviation. Four months x 4 hours a day is the norm to pass.

In the end, you do get to drink beer and and chat up the locals when you're off roster, so chalk it up to good fun and keen stories all round.

Cheers!

FR

-Please don't get offended, any of you.

yup, all true, did all that and more. flew there a year and a half, now mind you I never had any issue that was out of tolerance but for the mere fact that I was 6'6" tall (or 1.97meters if you prefer) and 300lbs (again 134kg) and the fact that the Chinese could not even conceive a size 16 foot they were convinced there HAD to be something wrong with me. every medical it was additional treadmill stress test, CT scans, ETC scans, 24hr heart monitor, it went on and on, all came back completely normal. i finally broke after yet again another 'normal" medical, sense they had done everything else to me they asked for the proverbial "bridge too Far" I was asked to do an angiogram, that's right, cut open an artery and run a tube up to my heart, spray some dye and take yet another picture of my heart. I sked why, all other test showed no problems, blood psi. normal, heart beat, CT angiogram, everything and their answer was "Captain we know that you are OK, but you are Capt. many of your FO's cannot land the aircraft if you die, you are over 40 and obese so we must guarantee your health or we will get in trouble" this is an exact quote, so yes, I do not want to do this kind of idiotic crap again just to satisfy their curiosity or worse me paying the price for their incompetence

Initial HKCAD medical is nothing unusual but includes a chest xray, if you are fit you may have a larger heart than normal and they cannot comprehend that so it's off to the stress ECG. Their idea of stress ECG is my idea of a warm up so not too much " stress " involved other than having given up a good job and moving 1/2 way around the world to find out you may not pass their medical

caac

I have just gone through CAAC medical. After all the ekg, chest xray, stress test, eeg, eyes, ears, blood, urine, and tears. The CAAC tells me that they won't accept lasik. I've had 20/15 vision for 7+ yrs and have already passed their vision tests. Their ideal candidate is 22 yr old triathlon runner with 8000 hrs total time. Good luck.

Yep. You may have to get a waiver for being well.

A new mom struggle

Hi there guys,

I'm only few months postpartum and still carrying some extra weight, would there be a problem for a HKCAD class one medical if my BMI is 26 (overweight)?

I doubt that would be a problem for the HKCAD medical. There are plenty of blokes flying in HK with a BMI higher than that!

If your BMI is over 35, you cannot hold a medical in HK (among other tests required).

Initial and renewal medical can be up to 35 BMI, but you will be questioned a lot about your lifestyle.

Blimey . Thought the Dutch RLD was bad.

Got through all the hoops for DEC- ASL (sorry) and UK commissioned Doc was so impressed he issued a Class one, unrestricted HK.
I was told to expect joining Instructions. Got the two line reject siting CX Medical dept. Took it up with the UK chap who said that when CX asked him for the Med reports it usually meant a job offer was progressing.

But then, lotsa very dirty water under the bridge.

PS CAMELTOAD: Enjoy self harming ?

Just did my medical in CX city as well, all other tests were fine but couldn't see the last line on the chart in 6 meter distance. I was told my Myopia is serious(-4.25,-3.75) and was asked to attend a ophthalmologist. Went to a doctor in Central, spent 1800 HKD and doc wrote on the paper "healthy eyes" :/ and even want to reduce my glasses prescription lol

Yes thanks Koan. I did notice. My Dutch RLD experience was in 1992. CX HK Class one experience was 1997.
'Iz9497 suggests that not much has changed.

I did get examined by Dr. Cocks once. I don't remember it being too complex but there was something he wanted to follow up on,
Looking back seems the best thing that ever happened to my career.
