OK I'll bite....
squares, seriously; what are you thinking, man.... a debate about when to go to management about a mate's supposed 'sick call'? If he wants to spout off and you think it's poor form, grow some hair down there and tell him you think so. And that you aren't one of the guys that wants to hear about it his antics... Or maybe you really do want to hear about it...
You could easily transfer to join the cabin crew; that way you can report away to your heart's content about any little item that might stray from "the company's best interests". Or anything you just don't like.... Either way, get your pen ready; you are going to be one busy boy!
You work for a company that has it's own Sickness Management Program. If there is blatant abuse, it will be dealt with in true CX form.
Finally, when I hear of whistle blowing, I think of things that involve public/workplace safety, not about a guy going sick to attend a party. I don't necessarily condone it, but it's really none of your business.
From what I hear, there are job vacancies for the Hat Police up in the office. Give it a go. Best of luck.

Personalities will dictate your answer
An interesting debate Squares.
A colleague that calls in sick when he is not, is demonstrating poor collegiality. He is delibrately deceiving his doctor, his company and worse..... unloading his shift on a fellow pilot.
A colleague that exposes another is also demonstrating poor collegiality. After all we are work mates and ratting on colleagues is just as bad.
Judgement on which act is worse will vary by our personalities.
So to answer your question, if I am of an “Ally personality”, my “sick” colleague will not have done anything wrong. And anyone who dares to snitch on him is lower than a weasel.
Whereas, if my personality is an "Opportunist" i.e, one who expects personal accountabilty to be very high, I would demand the exposure of the slacker.
Unfortunately I'll decline judgement on the discussion. Im recovering from sickness by having another beer.

You just never know what is really going on in a persons life. This person could be calling in sick for a reason that is very personal and is trying to cover up. You just don't know unless it's you.
If you start creating a culture where pilots are reporting pilots, then people will start going to work when they shouldn't. Safety will be compromised and ironically more people will end up sick as viruses are brought to work. The company monitoring system is there to stop any bad trends, or help that person if there is a real problem. I believe this really is the best you can do to stop bad apples.
Our job is taking care of one ship at a time, not the whole fleet.
Cheers

......Dr Parkinson declared "I'm not surprised to see you here, you've got smokers cough from smoking, liver cirrhosis from drinking beer. I don't know how you came to get the Betty Davis knees but worst of all young man you've got industrial disease!
He wrote me a prescription he said 'you are depressed, I'm glad you came to see me to get this off your chest. Come back and see me later, next patient please, send in another victim of industrial disease.......".
Perhaps there is a lot of this going around at the moment..........

we could have had this debate in primary school. back then there was always the little snitch who would run to the teacher. invariably a pathetic individual who we all despised for his/her actions while the rest of us would refuse to tell. it is no different now. those pathetic individuals who we may have shared early school days with will, without some serious nurture, turn into adults who are equally pathetic and run and tell.
that still doesnt stop you from being a little disgruntled at those who take sick leave as if it was an entitlement.....once every couple of months and joke about reserve cover being there to be used. i would much rather these guys actually did their F***ing job and not leave it to the reserve roster to cover their selfish efforts to maximise time at home, especially when commuting.
