Will Oasis demise come to Cathay's rescue
Well I still have a job, loved here or otherwise.
I could have chosen to dump CX and run to Oasis to seek better greeer pastures. But I didn't.................
Why should we take back those that thumbed their noses at us? ( both in Pprune and in person )
Any Oasis Captain didn't need CX, that's why they took the "risk" and left.
Some S/O's and F/O's wanted a trouble free quick upgrade, fair enough but their GAMBLE failed, sorry to see it but holy crap Batman what do you want us to do about it?
They knew the considerable risks involved and still chose to leave CX for a quick promotion, they should have stayed.
They can come back to CX/KA..........but at the bottom.
Some wont want to come back and will seek other jobs at EK ( for eg )
And good luck to them, they didn't like CX before so they probably are doing the right thing.
Such is life..............

We didn't force them out did we.......
I too hate to see an Airline fold and people out of a job, but I've been there and done that twice before. These things happen and anyone that left a profitable Legacy Carrier to join an upstart like Oasis did so knowing it came with HUGE risks.
I hope they get good jobs, hopefully some will come back to CX at the bottom of our list.
Dictionary definition risk: chance of disaster or loss, act inspite of the possibilty of injury or loss
Some may well have needed to look that up.

Jagman you are an idiot
Well, sorry for being an idiot. How charming as part of a reasoned discussion!
I agree with the fact that CX must keep on C&T staff but there are many pilots coming up to 55 who are not C&T. Surely, if 100+ pilots are employed direct from Oasis on to the freighter it will ease the load considerably on the pax fleet.
I hope I'm wrong but, logically, an influx of so many pilots joining at the bottom of the seniority (and pay) scale must be like manner from heaven for CX. Even NR seemed to be licking his lips.

Mr Li will have to hurry up. Once the numbers of Dragonair pilots moving across to CX Fr8 is known this friday then they will know how many more vacancies there are. Oasis is worth nothing without the pilots ready to immediately recommence services. CX may be surprised by how many want to go to them of course, we'll soon see.

CoS 08
Maximum age is 61 for the ex-Oasis guys.
Sounds like a single entry date to CX in order of Oasis seniority, all on the applicable CoS 08 (with RA65, so no bypass pay).
All as F/O's, with some rapid Commands subject to the usual lack of interest from more senior pilots for the vacancies.
I have also heard that the assessment will be as simple as an interview and medical for "known quantities", and more for others. Needless to say some guys will need to look elsewhere for their next job.
Good luck

ACMS
Given your recent comments regarding Oasis crews joining CX I find it very hard to reconcile your comments regarding A scale and your current position in other posts.I agree with you ...you make your choices ..live with it!

Extensions past 55
CX is preparing for the eventuality of RA65. Part of that preparation is ensuring all pilots are offered employment post 55. If it happens to be on the freighter and you turn it down you can't very well sue them for discrimination...they offered you a job. This has been the case for at least 18months.
So don't assume Oasis will have any effect on those offers for extension. As there is no legislation in place CX can 'cherry pick' by only offering B scales to C+Ters and freighter scales to the rest.
ACMS,
I think many lack your enthusiasm for flying for the brush off airline. Unlike you I don't think those that went to Oasis, or any other employment, did it because of the financial rewards. I think it is mostly about honour, integrity, character and determining where your personal 'line in the sand' is for money versus job satisfaction. So yes you are very clever for staying with CX - and obviously the financial rewards of doing so are more important to you than to many others. Just because your monetary motive is stronger than most doesn't mean you should denigrate those who value job satisfaction, respect and esprit de corps more than the almighty CX dollar.
I wish the ex Oasis personnel luck in finding similar employment...employment where the main argument for working there isn't about how many houses you can buy in 15 years but how much respect you get for doing your job.
