Spirit1

Hi There

I am considering HKA. Can anyone highlight the T&C for me, please?

1: Salary(Basic +allowance)

2: Commandupgrade criteria A330

3: Blockdays off/commuting

4: Rosterstability

5: AverageBlock Hrs/Months

THX

Hi Spirit,
1. Salary for Capt is 121000 HKD
2. If you are FO, forget the upgrade.
3. NO block days off / Not commuting roster if you live away from the area.
4. Roster change on a daily basis.
5. 50 hours + -

Hope that will help you out.

I am sorry Kathey, but HKA ALREADY has had its Command Course APPROVED by CAD recently. As a matter of fact, 2 command trainees will be getting their command by early next week on the B738 fleet. Good for them

KA pilots in Contact Compliance this summer? I seriously doubt that. CC is used in 'extreme' cases that effect the 'entire' pilot group. Not on behalf of one section of the pilot group that isn't happy with their pay rise offer. (new COS) If CC was being considered because of the debacle that is the medical scheme over there then perhaps, but because KA is offering their new COS as an alternative to the lowered packaged , currently employed local staff? Seriously? I think the DPA might suffer a rapid decline in membership numbers if that was voted in.

Are you serious? 'Till now you still haven't figured out that the new COS doesn't only have an impact on the locals; but also to the expats? Aren't you aware that it affects the whole B scale group? Have a look at A scale....

Staff being paid late?

I just heard some HKA ground staff were paid late last month. Together with the comments on maintenance this is worrying.

Can anyone tell me if it is normal for ground staff to get paid late at HKA, or is this the beginning of something bad....?

Both HKA and HKE are in peril but if you believe in the rubbish that spits out of the mouth of that disgusting looking individual (HKE's GMF), The Hainan group will send CX broke......!

Will they be ordering some Tugs, so all those planes can actually go somewhere?

By the way - the 777's are in limbo. Somebody didn't ready up with a stage payment in June and its all off again.

Extremely badly managed company, people keep on saying that Hainan has deep pockets, but have never come across a chinese company willing to lose money, if we are to believe what people are saying about Hongkong airlines, about their on time performance their low load factors especially their London flights, worrying definitely worrying have many friends there, hope they don`t do anything drastic.

Like what?
Leave?

It's a great little flight school!
Dozens of guys and gals have now received FREE conversion courses to the A330, a decent marketable wide-body rating. Enjoyed a spin around Asia, saw HKG, had a laugh.....maybe even got a job in Management or Training!
All hella good on the CV.

I agree with diablo as long as mainland china wish them to remain in HK they will, remember that eventually cathay will be swallowed up by Air China and then it will be interesting, for the time being i was thinking more on the line of pay cuts or worse redundancy, wish them best of luck

After only a few years of operation it was forecast that Qantas would be nothing more than Jetstar with a red rat on the tail. A few years on and....

Air China seems to make no apologies for it's want of CX (SCMP Aug 2009, dug up from a quick search):

While Cathay remains in the hands of Swire Pacific (SEHK: 0019), staff can rest assured they will not be forced to recite a creed anytime soon. But whether Swire remains in control over the long term remains to be seen.

Air China is keen to get its hands on Cathay to boost its international presence and take advantage of the Hong Kong carrier's experience in training and services.

John Slosar, the Putonghua-speaking chief operating officer of Cathay, has reassured staff and investors that the strategy and management would not change despite Air China's increased presence.
And yet people don't see the writing on the wall for CX?? Continuously eroded terms and conditions, contracts constantly under threat (hell, look at the new iCadet contracts and recruitment standards!), China's economy as opposed to Europe, the UK and the US..... So, will CX not be Air China with a green swoosh on the tail in the near future?? I reckon it'll only take the great Swire to suffer a hit for them to let go of their controlling stake in CX.

CX is aviation in HK whether we like it or not. And there's a reason for that. You can't stick around this long and be so profitable without doing many things right. But those days are fast ending, once again the iCadetship and what it means to standards, terms and conditions for the future.

So, the Demise of HK Airlines or the [regrettable] way it is for this industry?

From my digging into whether or not to apply for a job at HKA (seems pointless now) HKA is a small bit of muscle being flexed by the Hainan group into the HK SAR. With 17 (I believe) airlines under it's belt Hainan only need to start re-jigging some passenger loads and routings via HK. Easier said than done, but don't under estimate the size of Hainan, let alone the same with what Air China could mean mean for CX. As for what I've read (not on this web site!) about the HKA management style, structure and methods; that's another issue altogether! But as to the demise of them?? The CAD may force that upon them if not by their own hand it seems unless there is a radical turn around in the way they choose to operate and exist.
