WTF!!! A cum signing ceremony this is oh so fitting! I'm sure there would have been an abundance of HKA 'one eyed trouser snakes' present

From HKA website

Hong Kong Airlines TV Commercial launch cum signing ceremony
Date:18/3/2011
Hong Kong Airlines released a brand new TV commercial, to promote its service and new branding campaign “Fresh, very Hong Kong” with Wing Chun martial art artistes Rose Chan and Dennis To as its service promotion ambassadors.

With a combination of Chinese traditional culture and modern fashion style, Ms. Rose Chan, the actress of this TV commercial, shows a series of martial art moves while promoting the different destination routes of Hong Kong Airlines with a slight twist at the end. She represents a Hong Kong Airlines flight attendant.

Hong Kong Airlines also announce that Wing Chun class will be one of the basic training for all its flight attendants in an effort to improve body and mind. This is to meet the upcoming challenges ahead when providing the best of service to the customer under any circumstances during flight. The first course was conducted by Mr. Checkley Sin, the chairman of National Arts Holding Limited and also a master of Wing Chun. As an assistant teacher, Rose also led those flight attendants to a performance of Wing Chun to the guest during the press conference.

“We will bring more surprises to the public later, including a higher standard of in-flight services, with a fresh attitude, to reiterate our branding theme: ‘Fresh, very Hong Kong’.” Said Mr. Yang Jianhong, the president of Hong Kong Airlines.

Talking Cum Signing - Any Takers?

That just has to be a cock-up, a cum signing ceremony.

Anybody going to be cum signing on a Wing Chun trained Flight Attendant?

I am sure there are some Singawhores who could handle themselves well at such an event.

No Agenda from me, just pointing out some facts and questions.

It is up to the individual if they choose to work there but they should take a look at the cost of living first.

Take a rest from the dictionary dude, why are you so worried over there in India ? and how would you know WTF is going on in HKG ??

Not true, I collected my 500th hour after flying for 8 month. 18th Apr 2011 14:59
And there in lies the rub, after being employed by HKA for 12 months you would be lucky to have 300 hours, after you are checked to line for 12 is a different matter. Oh, and if you say you have 500hrs 8 months after your start date....you are lying ( and should be HKA management

Go GiveHead

Congratulations, your the hardest working lowest paid pilot in HK.

Enjoy your two minute noodles and sharing your government flat with your buddies from HKA.

The snakes must love you groveling around sniffing their butts to get some extra flying hours. Did Dick Lai train you? The dumb and blind leading the dumb and blind.

Hi I am new to HKA last year.

I find out they not paying some things they should. 50000 $HK each year.

I had interview with Hong Kong Labour Department to confirm some things, and they agree that HKA is not paying pilots the legal amount for annual leave and holiday pay. The department said they are aware of this issue for some time, but the pilots have never stick together to force the issue.

When we did the calculations the amount they underpay us is about 40,000 or more each year. Depends if your captain or first officer.

There are 5 pilots who are now willing to put pressure to get paid what is correct. (The amount the government published we should be paid to all employees) We are trying to get more pilots, to join us and make the company stop fraudulently underpaying us.

The laws can be found here Department of Justice: Bilingual Laws Information System
Chapter 57 Section 40 Payment of holiday pay and Section 41 Rate of holiday pay.

One of the laws they are breaking is paying ONLY basic salary during annual leave when we should receive the average daily rate for the annual leave period for the previous 12 months. (Average means basic salary plus hourly flight pay)

The other law they are breaking is not paying “extra” when we work on a statutory holidays.

The other thing is we are not receiving a “substitute DDO” if we work on a statutory holiday as specified in section 40. The just write DDO-SH in our roster, and it is not an 'extra' day off just the next normal DDO on your roster.

The unfortunate thing is, the Labour Department told me they advised HKA in 2009 and last year that they were not legally paying what they should, and the company ignored them. They advised me that any court case about this and the Judge will hand down severe punishment to the Managers responsible because they have been formally warned yet decide to ignore the Government Law. The pilots also have advised the company many times.

They also told me that any employee of HKA is entitled to back pay plus interest for the last 6 years plus more for damages. Each pilot that been there for 6 years can expect a cheque for 400,000 or more and new pilots can expect 50,000 for each year of employment.

50,000 hkd is $6500 USD and that money is yours. Are you going to raise you voice to ask for clarification?

You can also email the Human Resources Department, DFO and Finance Department for clarification. They are the department heads who will be responsible for all the back pay and Government fines, and bad publicity against the company.

Or if you want the facts from the Government, do what I did and organise an interview with the Labour Department here. Labour Department - What's New
Telephone : 2852 4192

We have all been F#c@ed our entire career don’t sit back and do nothing.

And for the guys that say "I told you so". Thanks I know but I am just getting another 500 hours and going to Korean Airlines. This job is nothing but a jumping stone for all but the oldest pilots here.

Go Ahead

Hi too.girls.one.cup

Welcome to HKA. This company as well as HKE has been knowingly underpaying their pilots for years. With the full knowing of the senior management who chose to ignore the labour department.

The labour department here is looking for someone to take the lead and put a case against the company ( just another to the list of cases against them )
Their are enough pilots leaving to find one who may be interested in doing that, I am sure you will get the full support from all the other flights crews here. If anyone is willing to do it please go ahaed.

I would hope the case would not only be against the company but also the senior management such as HR manager,GMF, DFO, CEO, and president who are all aware of the findings by the labour department but who chose to continue to ignore them.

Maybe the posiibillity of a substantial fine against these individuals may help to change things for the better.

The Labour Department informed us that we need a court case. They will not do anything unless one pilot takes the issue to court. They said they would fully support the pilot should he go to court, and there is a very high chance the judge will side with the pilot and the Labour Department.

If any recently resigned pilot wish to take this to court. You will have full support of the Labout Department and have a good chance of making a few bucks for yourself and all the existing pilots, and at the same time showing our company how is should conduct business. (Following the Law) Unfortunately the Labour Department advised me not to go to court myself because Hong Kong has not a good track record and any current employee would be fired if they tried to push this matter.

Anyone want to step up to the plate?
