France lists banned airlines
France early today published a list of five airlines banned in its airspace for safety reasons.
The airlines were Air Koryo from North Korea, Air Saint-Thomas from the United States, International Air Service from Liberia, Air Mozambique (LAM) and Phuket Airlines of Thailand.

The UK has published such a list since January 2004.
Full details here:
UK DfT Foreign Airline Permits
Welcome aboard mes amis
Currently the Secretary of State is refusing or would refuse to issue permits to aircraft registered in or operated by the airlines with an Air Operators Certificate from any of the states listed below because of evidence that they are not receiving adequate regulatory oversight from their national aviation authorities:
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Equatorial Guinea
Liberia
Sierra Leone
Swaziland
Tajikistan
In addition, the Secretary of State has suspended or refused permits to the following airlines:
Air Mauritanie (Mauritania) because of operational safety concerns.
Phoenix Aviation (Kyrgyzstan) because of doubts about the airline's principal place of business.
Phuket Airlines (Thailand) because of operational safety concerns.
It should be noted that these airlines may be permitted to offer services to the UK, and issued with a permit, if these services are contracted out and operated by another airline.

On a similar vein there was a piece on the news (TF1) here last night about the DGAC grounding a Turkish airliner due safety reasons stranding poeple and the day before Pax AGAIN refused to board (I think)a Tunisian airliner as they thought it was unsafe to operate. This happened a month or so ago aswell, see HERE

So...the obvious question:
Why, in the supposedly joined-up EU, do the UK and French blacklists not agree with one another?
Isn't this precisely the situation which emerged after the Flash Airlines prang?

Great, this means ALL airlines from Egypt or Greece or Turkey are save?
Most likely not, but thats the impression non - aviation people might have. The great thing is that a pax noe checks the wbsite of his country to find out which airlines are considered unsafe -
completely useless, since he can not book them anyway.
Great - and if he departs from somewhere else, he has to check approx. 20 websites, because the authorities are not able to make ONE database.
Nice for tv, otherwise absolutely useless.

Air Van Airlines (Armenia)
Central Air Express (Democratic Republic Congo)
I.C.T.T.P.W. (Libya)
International Air Tours Limited (Nigeria)
Johnsons Air Limited (Ghana)
Silverback Cargo Freighters (Rwanda)
South Airlines (Ukraine)
Funny enough their all Freighter Airlines of which 7 African.
And also the Belgium list has none that the French have... Makes you wonder what they base this all on.

please do not give me an answer that its so large that 1-2 accidents are just a small percentage bla bla bla...Ba ia similarly large and is excelent!!!
About time that we review the major international airline's safety as well...PAX come first!!!!

what a coincidence, there are no F Reg A/C on the French banned list. I remeber 2 or 3 years ago a certain french operator namely Eagle Air aith pax A300B4 & A310 flying up & down between CDG & Africa in Air Togo paint scheme. I got a call one day in Lome in west Africa to assist them with a snag. When I looked at the A/C and the list of things that were wrong with it in the Log book (plus the other stuff not written down) I walked away. The A/C needed a lot of downtime & spares to bring it back to a full sevicable condition, which I doubt it ever got

You would love this, there is a whole thread on the BASSA cabincrew forum with someone saying Air France should be black listed due to the unusually high number of crahes they have had over the years compared to others!
