For all you FJ types, next time you do FE with a Chinook and he calls "Snapshot," now you know what could be coming at you!
On the highest settings that equals 4000 rounds per min (or 66.6 rounds a second).

The title is indeed a trifle misleading, as the the chopper shown was a Huey, and the gun was the Mini-Gun. Impressive footage anyway.
Dont know that the minigun was fitted to the Hughes 500D shown in the clip, always thought they had a forward firing cannon.
The Apache was fitted with a large Chaingun, somewhat heavier and different operation to the minigun.
Always thought the Mini would be good for roo shooting on the back acreage.

You want one of those guns, I want one of those crewman!!!!! The weapon is only as good as the guy aiming it.
He actually hit some of the targets - fantastic video, something for the cabin attendants to aspire to!

So that's what happens to all those cars that get donated to charity.
Is it me, or do the majority of the rounds actually miss the target?
Still if you have to fight an army of parked cars abandoned in an open plane, this'd definately be the weapon of choice

OTT? Never! Very nice indeed and a good find. It reminds me of my time variously above and behind the M61 Vulcan - 6000 rounds per minute, or a cool 100 per second, and 20mm to boot. A bit light for armour, sadly, but a blast to fire. I've seen pics from Viet Nam days of F-4s with 3 such weapons - one on the centreline and one under each wing - and that looked like being the biggest ordnance-delivery thrill ever! Apart from nuking Blair, of course.

Just remember there are normally four ball rounds in between each pair of tracer rounds in standard 7.62mm ammunition.

The RN is putting them on ships as close in protection against a towel head attack boat similar to USS Cole. I'd say they would be pretty effective. Handy against any a/c or helos that got too close.
