Thumbs up Old Warden Autumn show piccies

Bright and sunny - if a bit nippy - and yet another smooth show from the Shuttleworth crew. Can these guys do no wrong...? Some good formations today, but I reckon display of the day this time was the Hind - always looks a cracker but really zoomed around with gusto today.

Such a shame that the LVG had to bow out with just an engine run on her final public appearance before being shut up in Hendon to gather dust and be forgotten about

Anyway enough of me ranting about perfectably serviceable aeroplanes being grounded by the RAF Museum, on to the flying...

Would have loved to have popped over to Old Warden today - but had to work instead.

Great pictures of the historics as ever, many thanks. But I can't help feeling that the Extra (?) flying billboard was somewhat out of context?

And as for those strange 79 Sqn markings on the JP..... Incidentally, rumour hath it that the arrows on the sqn markings were there so that the old gits flying refresher trips on 79 Sqn could work out the direction to the cockpit!

DB - again, a nice set, well done and thanks.

Beags - Being one of the 'Old Gits' on 79 in my younger days, and given the fact that I believe we are of the same age, I have to take exception to your comments on said Squadron - although, I must admit that one or two of my then colleagues had past their sell by date some years before!

I believe the JFACTSU JP's were painted in 79 Sqn markings for a short time after Standards Squadron imploded, but I'm not sure of the overall colour scheme. They were, however, Mk IVs.

Denny Dobson - the punters love him, so that's why he displays at Old Warden.

FAC JPs were indeed "owned" by 79 in a grey/green camo from 1974 or so, thence getting air defence greys from 1986.(Some were even in the training red/white scheme, being aircraft "borrowed" from the CATCS at Shawbury). However they never had yellow t bands and were T4s.Its another of those "nearly but not quite" paint jobs that seem to be around - if your gonna do it, do it properly!! No such worries for the Shuttleworth stuff - its all 100%, but come on guys please paint the Gladiator back in RAF markings!!!
