Tehran: An Iran air plane's wing caught fire as it was taking off from Tehran on Wednesday, said an airport official.

The incident took place at Tehran's Mehrabad airport, around 8am UAE time, said the air traffic control chief.

The airport official said: “A (Dutch-made) Fokker 100 Iran Air plane which was going from Tehran to Shiraz (south) skidded off the runway”

Only a few of the 100 passengers suffered minor injuries and respiration problems.

An investigation has been launched by Iran’s civil aviation, local media reports.

Can anybody find any news link to that story? The a.m. report seems a bit confused and full of contradictions to me and is supposed to be more than 12 hours ols now - but I cannot not find any better report...

Angel iran air F-100

They were no.5 in the line awaiting for de-icing but for some reasons decided to skip de-icing.

Another 20 min holding short of the TO runway in freezing tem and recent snow had agravated the situation.

Out of the 113 on board ,both pilots and chief flt attendant has been hospitalized due minor injury.

Is it just me, or do quite a few recent accidents where aircraft have skidded off the runway during t/o or landing seem to have been videoed by pax as soon as they are off the aircraft?

Inevitable given the prevalence of mobile phones with cameras. Perhaps they need to design a phone that incorporates a fire hose?

In the video I counted 5 other passengers taking photos besides the guy shooting the video.

Not only do many passengers seem more concerned about getting good photos and videos than getting clear of the area - these often reveal an alarming number of evacuated passengers carrying various bits of hand luggage (see the photos of the China Airlines 737 evacuation back in August 2007 for a particularly extreme example).

Whilst clearly a risk when used during the incident (e.g. the recent t/o crash with truck on runway) to themselves and other PAX, amateur camera shots (though perhaps not in this incident) could provide valuable evidence to assist investigators.

As of five minutes ago there were 104 photos of the Fokker crash posted on Flickr. One of them is from inside the aircraft and is of people evacuating.

Just how long do you think it took for the fire engines etc to arrive? 3 minutes? Is that normal response times?

CAP 168 Chapter 8 suggests achieving response time of 2 mins, not exceeding 3 mins in optimum visibility and surface conditions.

However, it doesn't take into account whether or not they are volleyballing, carwashing or watching the footy on sky tv!!! Only joking guys.

Also interesting to note the first appliance on scene was down wind of the fire, & appears down slope of it
Glad to see all evacuated ok.
