I caught a bit of the news this morning and said that there was a "twin" that ditched yesterday at Tweed Heads and there was also a single that ditched at Kings Cliff.

Can someone clarify if there were 2 or just 1 that went down yesterday as I only read about the single engine at ninemsn. Apparently the pilot jumped before the aircraft hit the water. From what I've heard the twin was carrying 6 POBs'.

Also, there was a cherokee that landed yesterday at YSBK after losing it's engine cowling over prospect.

and on the news tonight there is another down (and badly damaged by the look of it ) near YHOX.

Looked a bit like a Cirrus on the news footage??? Anybody got details yet? Sounds like it only happened in the last couple of hours.

Fuselage looked only moderately bent - hope they got out OK.

Pilot critical after light plane crash
The pilot of a light plane that crashed in Sydney's west is in a critical condition after emergency crews managed to free him from the aircraft.

The man and his male passenger, both believed to be in their 40s, were injured when the plane came down in a field adjacent to the M7 motorway at Horsley Park at about 4.50pm (AEDT) on Monday.

The pilot was trapped in the cockpit of the crashed plane for almost an hour before rescuers were able to free him.

He is in a critical condition with head and limb injuries and has suspected spinal and neck injuries.

The man was being airlifted by the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter to Westmead Hospital.

His passenger has already been taken to Liverpool Hospital with head injuries and was in a serious condition.

Beach-goers saw the twin-engine aircraft ditch into the sea just 100m from Casuarina Beach near Kingscliff late yesterday.

It is believed the pilot was trying to make an emergency landing after experiencing engine problems.

The Westpac rescue helicopter has reportedly crashed in northern New South Wales.
All five crew were unhurt, according to a Sky News report.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service operates nine rescue aircraft in NSW, including two based at Lismore and one at Tamworth.

The organisation was founded in 1973 by Surf Life Saving Australia and has continued to provide a sponsored, non-profit rescue service.

Since it began, the service has saved an estimated 34,000 lives around Australia.

This has NOT been a good week...

To make matters worse, it looks like it was a Jabiru that crashed out of Hoxton Park. They happen in 3's so it's safe flying for all Jabs now. (got the Jab ID second hand, so sorry if it's wrong).

well, thats 7 crashes in 2 weeks on my count. not good.

I do wonder at the engine cowling guy. I was about 1/2 mile away from him, he requested services for a missing cowling?

Not a Jab, although they have had there run of bad luck lately. On the ABC news you could see the Cirrus SR22 on the tail.

I saw the Cherokee that lost the cowling and made a hole on top of the wing when it hit. Apparently, it just got out of it's 100 hourly.

Okay, now for those who are flying Phil's duchess VH-ASA, can someone please confirm this as I was suppose to fly this last Sunday and someone said it was out of hours but now someone has said it actually had a PROP STRIKE ???!!! ........

IIF is still out of action and may not be on line for awhile, now ASA ????

It still indicates it is online on the web bookings. It has bookings on it for today onward, I have a booking on it this weekend. Haven't heard anything to the contra.

it seams to me that there has been a lot more VH stuff going down in these past few months!

Yeah Ultralights, but we never hear about half of the 19 and 24 stuff do we?

The latest one from enroute Camden to Bankstown, VH-HYY, a Cirrus SR22.

Will be interesting to see what went wrong with that one and why CAPS wasn't deployed.

Was the cirrus crash fatal?

From my position, knowing nothing about the specific incident, just because you HAVE a ballistic recovery system does not mean you HAVE to use it.

ill do a forced landing over using the ballistic parachute anyday. You need a fair bit of height and time to get the chute to deploy properly anyway, and if you're from SCN to SBK, you're probably not much above 1500 ft. By the time you troubleshoot and are sure you're going in, what, 1000 ft?

- I would suggest that the handle was definitely pulled then, as there is no visible "hatch" on the Cirrus, so perhaps the charge went off and blew a hole. Not saying that you're wrong, just saying that it's unlikely that it happened on impact as it's punching through glass when it goes off and impact probably wouldn't do that.

A major service for a Cirrus is normally a new engine as the problems with the 20's seemed to affect all of them. Haven't heard too many things wrong with the 22 with regard to engine problems. The 20's problems were generally related to cracking of the block due to the alternator attachment.
