Just heard on the radio police off to wycombe about a possible accident.
any news from anyone, hopefully just a false call from the general public seeing someone do an auto in the local area.

It was a Hughes 500 whose engine quit. He Autorotated it into a field. Only a scratch on his head which was very lucky since the lefthand side was well broken up. Another example where a helmet would have been a wise decision.
Full marks on his landing though. He did a stunning job landing it where he did with his experience.

A pal who flies FW at Wycombe told me that he'd heard of another heli crash just to the west of Lane End (which is just inside the heli circuit at Wycombe when flying on 24). Apparently, the helicopter ambulance was scrambled (lives nearby at White Waltham). Presumably this was the same incident. Unusual to see a Hughes 500 at Wycombe. Anyone know anymore, who owns it etc.? Are engine failures on a 500 more commonplace than on other small helis?

The comment on helmets and bikes reminds me..Having read a research report that says the average helicopter crash is less velocity than a car accident and most helo casualties are caused by incapacity rather than the crash itself..i.e. unable to escape before it goes up in smoke ....does anyone have a view on using cycle crash helmets rather than full blown and very expensive helmets or nothing at all ??
