Historic METAR

Does anybody know where I can get back dated METARs from.
The met office web site does not seem to have this facility.
Thanks
TB

Re: Historic METAR

Don't know how far back you want, but www.metbrief.com does them for the previous 24h...

Scroll down til you get to the aviation bit (it's a long scroll!)

Re: Historic METAR

I assume it won't be of use to you but ...

There are two add on software that provide realistic weather for Microsoft's Flight Simulator :

ActiveSky6 - http://www.hifisim.com/
and
FSMeteo - http://www.fsmeteo.com/

These programs load curent weather from live sources in the flightsim but also have a backlog of all METARs in their servers so that flightsimmers can download "old" weather and try it out as well. You simply specify the METAR cycle and 370k of data are saved in your PC for future "off line" use.

They are payware (not free) add on's.
When you download the weather you can fetch in text format the metar you're looking for via tis user interface.

I have found old weather many times through them.
I am not sure if FSMeteo saves each hourly metar cycle for download but last time I checked ActiveSky it was saving one cycle each 3~4 hours (less than 24 per day) which may mean you may loose a very specific metar you may be looking for.

Re: Historic METAR

If you contact the Met Office, they will send you an backdated Metars. Just be sure that your credit card has plenty of dosh on it, as it works out to about 25p per group of letters. eg. OVC = 25p
